Why bother out for the sales??
« on: 27 December 2006, 11:57:44 »

Needed to rebuild my mums PC cause it was running slow, decided to get an external hard drive to back everything up to just for her machine.

Product: MyBook 250Gb External Drive. £64.98 (Free Delivery) - From Amazon

PC World RIP OFF Price of: £84.99 Online & £99.99 In store!!!  :o :o ::) ::) PLUS!!! PLUS!!!! £10 delivery for online shopping!!! WTF

Ordered: Late evening Christmas Eve
Arrvied: Today 11:45am  ;D (standard delivery btw)

In my comfy black leather office chair, quickly and easily compared prices online of the drive we wanted, stopped for some free refreshments along the way. Was cheapest on Amazon, few mouse clicks, Done.

Since all the major department stores have online shopping, what is the point in going out for Rugby style scrums??

My auntie though says "Online shopping is not safe bla bla bla" - She likes to go around with cash on her!  :o

I said your more likey to get pick pocked than have problems with online shopping, also if their is fraud most banks pay you back!!

Of course, you are then reliant on couriers, and I've found couriers to have a dislike for Brackley. Amtrak have failed to deliver to me when promised over half a dozen times now - always same excuses such as van broke down, or driver had a crash.

At least Amazon use Royal Mail...

Sorry to worry you mate but we've started delivering amazon now (HDNL or white arrow as was), and as regards royal mail didn't you see the tonight show report on them last week. They make my firm look good.

>:( - most couriers always fail to deliver on promised day here. Notable exceptions are Shitty Link and UPS in my experience.

I would not imagine RM are any worse than any other courier on trackable items...

I've never had a problem ordering online, except on ebay. But thats what you get for buying stuff from private sellers.

I don't know why anyone would want to buy anything from PC World. My mate works there, and he tells me even their packaged PC's are a joke. Their component shop stocks components that went out of date a year ago, and overprice it all. Their PC's are all below-par, overpriced and oversold rubbish (floor sales assistants usually fill the customer up with so much bullshit they think they are buying the Ferrari of the PC market), their peripheral and accesory section is terrible, their cables and extension leads are extortionate, and customer service people are unhelpful, unknowledgable and try to fob the customer off at every opportunity.

I agree. But not everyone is as PC savvy as us.

Additionally, they do have their uses - you can walk in and pick stuff up if you need in a hurry. If you order online, and select store pick up, its normally much cheaper, and you can collect an hour later.

Some Advent (their own brand) is good, some built more to a price point (esp their AMD stuff).  My current media centre (I bought barebones from ebay) turned out to be an Advent branded system. Excellent. Made by FIC, called Spectra, and is the same stuff (rebranded) that Elonex used in their Artisan LX range (still considered to be best mce made, despite being 18months old)
