Good video on global warming absurdity
« on: 18 November 2008, 23:03:03 »

This 9 ½ minute video brilliantly and accurately (it is not a spoof!) shows the absurdity of today’s man-made global warming fear campaign.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLxicwiBQ7Q

The video is based on the website “A complete list of things caused by global warming.”

http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/warmlist.htm

The website is run by Dr. John Brignell, a UK Emeritus Engineering Professor at the University of Southampton who held the Chair in Industrial Instrumentation at Southampton.

We humans seem to need something to feel guilty about.
Catholicism used to be very good at fulfilling this need globally,it now appears to be being replaced by the "climate change religion".
Where there is a vaccuum,it can and often is, filled by the most ridiculous things.

I am worried but not by global warming.

What worries me is deforestation, pollution, and over use of limited natural resources.

As usual Nickbat ....you state your case in a articulate and informed manner.......but ...I just do not agree that climate change/global warming is a fantasy of a few crackpot scientists/environmentalists.

Perhaps only time will tell......but do we have that time.? :-/ :y

The earth goes in cycles.  People lived on the green Greenland in the middle ages.  I suspect that was due to their forefathers driving their landrovers everywhere.

Whether or not man has had an effect is not necessarily the same as if we are suffering global climate change.  The BBC and tree huggers never differentiate. No point trying to get sensible answer from government, as they like the idea for an easy tax.  Trying to find accurate information is hard.

I don't think there is any doubt we are in a period of climate change, but is it due to man's activities? If it is, is it due to carbon footprints and other wankwords, or because we are cutting down rain forests?  I think all the research money is going to the scientists likely to make most money for the government...

I agree.  I'm not sure what to believe but I do know that we are using resources that no one can replace.

Fossil Fuels obviously spring to mind but at the end of the day everything will run out.  Does anyone know how much iron we have left?  Probably tens of thousands of years worth but it would be nice to know.

Damn right. Did the dinosaurs work themselves into a frenzy about climate change? Would it have done them any good? What makes us think we're any diferent?

Ok, so we have a bit more understanding than they had and we should use it to make things better within reason.

In the overall scheme of things only a small part of what's going on is man made and less is under our control than we believe.

When our time comes we'll go the same way, and the cycle will repeat. CO2 figures, not leaving TVs on standby and low energy bulbs will seem pretty rather insignificant then. ;D

Not crackpots, but people with an agenda in mind. Unfortunately, their agenda is causing the real problems to be sidelined.

IMHO, Professor David Bellamy has the best take on this. He says:

"...my opinion is that there is absolutely no proof that carbon dioxide is anything to do with any impending catastrophe. The science has, quite simply, gone awry. In fact, it’s not even science any more, it’s anti-science."

"The thing that annoys me most is that there are genuine environmental problems that desperately require attention. I’m still an environmentalist, I’m still a Green and I’m still campaigning to stop the destruction of the biodiversity of the world."

"Mother nature will balance things out but not if we interfere by destroying rainforests and overfishing the seas.
That is where the real environmental catastrophe could occur."

I know I do a pretty poor imitation of Prof. Bellamy when I've had few tinnies ( ;)), but I have nothing but utmost respect for him. His views concur with mine 100% (or maybe it should be the other way round  ;D).
