after weeks of getting emails from the government and their stance on fuel duty, they informed me its being frozen, low and behold, they ar upping by 2p, all the stealth taxes have out balanced the tax cuts, so its fair to say were being stiffed by the powers that be.

Yep.....2.5% off VAT but, the exchange rate ($:£) is shite so that will make no impact plus fuel beer and and cigerettes are up to compensate the VAT rise.

So expect diddly squat impact next week.....and certainly dont expect it to make any difference to peoples spending!

My friend gets Child Tax Credits, and woooo that goes up!

But her other half works, and so the Tax & NI on his wages also goes up...

They worked it out, they are actually going to be WORSE off than what they originally were.

And I doubt VERY much that the VAT reduction will make any difference, as retailers will just increase the raw cost of items to compensate.

Example, fast food chains (such as Mc Donalds), £1.99 for a Bigmac (including VAT) so thats £1.82...  Given how much they promote its £1.99 - do you think its better to spend £££'s on adjusting all the posters, price lists, adverts, etc... OR just increase the raw price to £1.84???

Plus the increase in Fuel Duty will have a knock-on effect to the distribution costs for consumable items in shops (food stuffs, etc) so again prices will go up in stores, not down...

Even if the VAT reduction did increase spending what would be the effect? Loads of consumers spending borrowed money on imported tat. How exactly will that help the economy? A few retailers might be happy, but follow the money.. Straight onto a container ship to China.

To think that money could have gone to freeing up credit for businesses that will go under without it, or any number of other much better causes and it's being pi$$ed away like every other pound Labour has spent. As usual, they just couldn't resist going for headlines instead of making a real difference. The story of the last 11 years.

i know of a lot of retailers who won't be passing it on - the costs involved in small businesses relabelling, and adjusting systems are massive, esp as its back to 17.5% soon, so would have to repeat.

used car dealer ain't going to relist a car from 3999 to 3925 is he.
