ok, I made a mistake and did not notice the lack of posts by this user.  Thought I would help someone out.

You want deletion/expulsion/resignation or what?   :-/

I dont think either of the last 2.
Deleting the thread wont make any real difference now.

But maybe close it, and with reference as to the rules and guidlines broken.

If you dont you have the situation where some one picks up on it down the line and you get the well if it's good for one then why not me as well scenario.

Your punishment is all future holidays in a tin can, pulled at 50mph behind your pride and joy ;D

In all seriousness, Admin's decision is always a one off given the situation at the time.  The danger is upsetting people when we move some but not others.  What I will say is all Admin decisions are made in the best interests of the forum as a whole.

Also, notice we have Forum Guidelines (note - not rules) at the top of every board, but no bugger ever reads them

i honestly dont see the point in having a minimum limit on cars FS anyway.

i mean, its not like parts when you generally hand over your cash blind. buying a car you physically take the car with you.

but then its just me cuz i have one to sell. lol

sour grapes?

The cars I agree with you.

But a post limit was put in place as people were just coming  on the forum to sell things.  The point of the forum is to get involved.  50 posts is easily achieved and it gives people chance to get to know the poster.

In your case I would publish your add for the car as long as it's an Omega, if the Admin disagree they will simply delete it.

Just do everyone a favour if you do though.

Put the Age, Mileage, trim and body type and any other relevebt details such as T + T.  The add a few pictures, the more info you give the more chance you have to sell it.

We had problems with users signing up posting an ad (or ebay link) saying call them on mobile etc, and never coming back.  We did not build this place purely as a free ad site for people, but are happy to provide a place to sell Omegas for established members.

i understand that, dude, i really do.

but surely, if the sale ad that is placed benefits the member that buys it, that cant be a bad thing??

for arguments sake, someone nipping in to sell a proper cheapie that would do somone wife/mother/girlfirend as a first car/hack but are missing out simply because this cant happen.

Valid point, though I would imagine anyone looking for a 2nd car would be looking at egay and autotrader etc.

It takes time and money to run this place, and resources are limited.  I'd rather not see those resources wasted on some cheeky passer-by wanting to get something for nothing  :-/

This one will always be a hard question. I can see what you mean about people just taking the p***. I'm a newbie as i only brought the car yeaterday. i joined the day before to do a bit of homework on the car before buying as i've never owned 1 before. I run the 924 owners club and we did have issues like this and we dicided just to open the section up to all. Strange thing was that most people that joined just to advertise there goods were just ignored by most members. they went away and did not come back. a few however did stay and have become very good and helpfull members of the club. Myself have only a few posts on this forum and don't get a lot of privaliges that most get.. You sometimes start to think that the boards are very clicky and mates stick together (not found that on this board but have on others). All it needs is a disclaimer at the top that the board admin do not recommend any of the sellers on this board its down to the indevidual (i realy need to learn to spell). to check all items for sale.
You may loose good new members with a limit so high as 250 posts. We have members that only post upto 10 posts a year. You will have many on here i'm sure that visit most days but don't realy have to much to say. Is it fair to exclude them?. Rob

I understand your point.  But as you join in you become part of a communiy of like minded people

The forum isnt about just joining to sell parts, it's hopefully about coming here to gain knowledge and information, as this knowldge is gained we then pass it on to others.

I have seen questions asked at all times of the day, and 90% have had a soloution or help offered with in an hour.

The 250 post limit was added as a way of getting to know the seller.  50 posts can be achieved with a day, but 250 posts with a willing member means they have probably said hi, asked a few questions and helped out with a couple of replies.

It's not stricly an admin thing the limits were imposed, they just enforced it politly as they control the posts.

It was a decision taken by the whole group, a few of us were taken for a ride by a fellow member.  and even now there are still niggles

On the whole we are happy as it is, as I am sure you will understand in time to some.  :y

Valid points made :y - and when the limit was discussed and agreed, we were aware of the issues it would cause.  However, due to the extra admin overhead in resolving the fallouts, plus the fact, ultimately, we can do sod all about bad sellers, this way was considered the best available at the time.

I have looked into various 'trust/reliability' type software, ranging from low cost commercial, to writing myself.  Problem with the software we use is the massive amount of work to get our mods re-implemented after software update - even our fairly simple mods take a few days to redo and debug after each update.  Anything that hooks into member database is a significant piece of work to be redone regularly.

I was looking at trying to kludge the poll feature as some kind of trader reputation, but stopped with time constraints trying to overcome the extra resources demanded of the server.

How about an agreement that newbies can sell parts , but stipulate that the parts must be sent first and then payment received afterwards. Then the onus is on the seller to decide whether he trusts the buyer to pay up. It could also force the seller to describe the part as accurately as possible for fear of it being rejected. Presumably also scammers and quick buck merchants would be put of from trying their luck .

I would say virtually no seller would agree to that, far too much scope for abuse  :-/

Pulling this back to the original question... 50 posts is nothing, only took me 5 or 6 days to get over that. Now I just need a Miggy to sell :P

You never know ,might work . As someone said earlier , the whole idea of the forum is helping each other and also pretty much trusting each other. Personally I'd be prepared to send a part if I thought the buyer was a genuine member of the forum. Maybe not to someone who'd only been a member for a very short while though !  Maybe also the buyer would be unlikely to pull a fast one because of the potential effect on his standing on the forum.   It may not hurt to try it cos as you say ,people may not go for it anyway in which case you're sort of back where you started.
