I have a virus problem
« on: 17 December 2008, 22:43:21 »

Did a google search on it and found this.

Had AVG anti virus on, gone to AVG spyware thing, AVG Virus seems to have gone.

Also tried google toolbar as it has sorted stuff in the past.

Am pissed off with it.

Skruntie, just had EXACTLY the same thing on Maria's laptop. Do you also get those fake "you have a security problem" icons on the taskbar?

I managed to cure it with AVG, updating to latest definitions and doing a full system scan.

Agree, it was a pain in the @rse!

What really hacked me off was a radio type broadcast coming over my headphomes, closed all programs still there.

Went into tak manager and a file ending in ??????TMP.exe was running, closed it and the sound went off.

Fooking computers, must addmit it;s the 1st time I have been knowingly hit, and still getting the pop up.

Type name of "program" into google plus word remove.  You should get some +ve hits - just follow instructions.

Skruntie this is scarring me!! :o :o :o :o :o

Being ignorant in computer operations with software / hardware I must ask is it safe to open your link?? :-? :-? :o :o

I have loaded FF on my system, and I do not seem to have any "strange" messages on my toolbar.  What else must I look out for? :-?

As with everyone else my system is precious and I need it uncorrupted to do work on! :P

Lizzie .. the link is safe .. :)

Most of the big site operators, Yahoo, Google and commercial ones like Sainsbury's, Tesco's etc etc run their own "protection" systems so you are relatively safe.

It is visiting the "lesser known" sites .. usually for free downloads, or by "enticing" e-mails .. that you end up with this rubbish.

The Internet is NOT inherently dangerous, just like a car is not inherently dangerous ... it's how and where you drive it that matters .. :)

I dont think opening the link should be a problem as it is a blurb about the problem.

How ever as this is the 1st virus type problem I have actually ever knowingly suffered from thn I dont feel qualified to comment.

There ok but so are Spybot  /Tweaknow Reg cleaner pro (both free)  the thing is if you run a genuine : reg cleaner it will sort it but run one of these bombarding you to buy it & fines hundreds of reg probs (bolox) ... I have tried most just use Tweaknow Reg cleaner pro /Spybot & Noadware, just let em run in background have had no probs since started using them (at all) :y

Sorry, but NO, these companies have been fined in the past for failing at their core business, so would not trust their IT skills
If you don't know what you're doing the internet is dangerous,
Just as a car is dangerous in untrained hands
- A little knowledge in either case could be deadly
