Got my car running again!
« on: 04 January 2007, 18:43:19 »

Put everything back together, might re-vist the throttle body as was to scared to push it open very far.

Put the breathers back on, throttle body, cam sensor, and all the other bits.

TheBoy popped around again to help me get the Aux belt in, many thanks for that!  :y

Nervous about starting it, but seamed to fire up ok  ;D

Took it for a slow run out on the country roads all seamed normal, once warm gave it some stick... and err wow quite a difference. It seams to want to rev so much more easily and goes though the range a lot faster. It feels a little more "free" and seams to rev easier  ::)

Very hard to describe but a noticeable difference in power  :) - Maybe cause i removed 2 blockages in the thin pipes, and a lump of crud that was in that extra tiny pipe near the throttle body?? - Defo going to re-vist that seamed to help a lot.

Cam cover and belt all seamed good, with it all clipped in there was no movement in the middle were the missing nut was... after the engine was warm, everything seams ok.

I don't want to leave that nut as is, when i get the chance (expert tools & help) i'll fix it.

Many, Many thanks to all who replyed in my earlier threads much appreciated  :y

No oil loss, got back around 6pm. Watched the Simpson's then went out to check, its at the same level.

I made sure during the day those nuts where tight, might be worth getting a gasket for that and fitting it. Should only take a few mins that..

I still have a scar along my arm where i caught it on the plenum on your project car!

Thanks again for coming to do that Aux belt, i'd be up sh!t creak otherwise  :y

Glad its going again Tunnie  :y

Suprised your breathers were blocked.....as mine wernt and i dont think AA's were either ...but i guess your 2.2 is a bit older and a few more miles on it.

I reused my old gasket on that pipe....as i didnt have the new gasket when i did the job....i have a new one now but havent fitted it yet....i just gave the 2 bolts an extra tighten to try to seal it.....dont think mines leaking.....but i did have quite a bit oil in that area....altho now ive sprayed the area with biodegradeable oil solvent and pressure washed it.....most of the area is clean now....so i will have to keep a check on it!

i think tunnies car has been probably neglected in former life, and probably not many oil changes...

Guess that happens if you follow Vx's service schedule of 20k service intervals  :(

I reckon the company that owned it even stretched that a bit... ;)

BTW, Tunnie, did you change that oil again?

It was very poorly maintained, and sure thats the first time the throttle body has been off. When i picked it up i did'nt notice until it rained but the wipers were on the wrong way round, passenger on the drivers side  ::)

Now most of the breathers are clean i'll give it an oil change at somepoint again...

My mum has commented that I drive faster since meeting up with you and doing these projects!  8-)

But she was also very impressed you came around after work to help me out!  :y

Not since we did it on your drive... starting on my dads tomorrow it needs new pads and sensors, THAT i can do!  ;D

Might try and change it tomorow evening  :-/ - It could do with the fresh stuff in there now the breathers are clean and its had a run.

Bit off topic......so i apologise in advance....

I once was given a company car VW golf GTI.....2 years old with 80k on it.....transport manager said heres a nice car....you'll enjoy this one....drove it for 2 days before i took it back to him saying its pants.....hasnt got any 'go' in it ....transport manager said its a golf GTI...must have...i said you drive it....so he did and agreed it was rubbish...said he'd look into it.....turned out it had never been serviced in 80k miles  :o .....never had an oil change/ never seen a garage in its life  :o Fair to the golf to keep going but never had anything done to it 80k  :o He swapped it for another golf GTI he had.. :y..and sent the non serviced one back to the lease company  ;) Pity the sod that bought that one at auction  ::)

Is that the previous shape GTi? even a well maintained one would be slow... i remember my old 2.0 Si Mondeo was faster to 60!! (just)

I do like the new one...
