Vectra C SRi opinions please??
« on: 21 December 2008, 22:38:12 »

Wrong time to look but I am hoping to get one of these in a few months, just wondering what your thoughts are??

something like an 03 plate, it'll be the 1.9 diesel 150ps version, identical to the one pictured, as the tax and fuel costs will be very little more than my corsa!

the reason is I'm finding my corsa, although worry-free and unbelievably cheap, is too small for me, and its dawned on me that i dont like feeling like i've just passed my test in it and after looking at the vectra hatch (not drove one yet) seems practically perfect, even my girlfriend likes them, and i'd love to be driving big cars again

i know i know, wrong wheel drive, but much more economical than an omega for now

Ok as a bland method of transport, nothing wrong with them but i doubt you'd "LOVE IT" It's a boring repmobile really. You say a Mig's more to run? Maybe but newer cars cost more in service history stamps to keep any value, parts & labour are'nt cheap & for the initial purchase price you could save at least half on a newer Omega which would offset the running costs (only fuel really) for two or three years at least.

Try doing an overall cost comparison over a given period including depreciation ins. etc. If you really want a Mig you might be pleasantly surprised! :y

I wont be in the back ;D

thanks for the comments, i'm fussy but indecisive at the same time, and i'm fully aware that my thinking is completely illogical, if i had an omega i wouldnt be happy unless it was a 3.0 or 3.2 elite, but for some reason i'm very much taken by the SRi vectra (signums arent quite as cheap yet), and the blandness of the dash doesnt bother me either  ::)

Looks like you've already made your mind up. Given the depreciation (or lack of it on an Omega) I'd be very, very surprised if the Omega weren't cheaper. I drive 3.2 and think it is cheaper than a Vectra-C disiesel.

Fuel economy does not go down in direct correlation with engine size. A larger engine works less hard (unless you go heavy with the right foot) and it is not "what" you drive, but "how" you drive.

My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is; don't bother and buy a nice 3.2 Elite Omega.

Allways liked the look of these from the outside, but found the interior to be rather bland, that was in an SRi model about 2004. I had to sit in the back on that occasion and found the height of the rear window to be laughable. I am 6'4" and only just see out of the rear side windows. Ok so you probably won't be in the back, but for anyone you carry it could seem claustrophobic.

Apart from that probably ok, but do remember there are lots of them about so make sure you buy the best you can get in your price range.

IMHO i like that style of Vectra, but would have to be a hell of lot better than my Mig for me to have one.

I just can't fault my Mig at all, one of my best choices :) :) :) :) :) :y :y

My previous car was a vectra C SRi 2.2 DTi and it was practically bullet proof. Watch out for the steering arms and rear lower wishbones which seem to be common MOT failures. I was unlucky with mine as the fuel pump decided to pack in which basically killed it as it is a £2500 replacement but i don't think it is a common thing to fail.

Driven a few, and the lower performance ones aren't bad. Dull would sum it up, but it does the job.  On very long journeys (100s of miles) comfort is an issue, unlike Omega.

The more powerful ones have handling issues - mate at work has a Imrcher'd up 3.2 GSi, serious traction issues, and horrendous understeer, its quite a handful to drive quickly, even in the dry. Truely awful in the wet.

The dash is a bit plastic, bit like beemers really, only even more tacky imho.

No mate, do nothing for me either.

Boring looks and horrific interior.....hate the bright orange display set smack in the middle of the dash....what an eyesore !!!

Dont believe for a second that you couldnt get an Omega for the same if not less money......and I know which I would sooner have.....
