The gap is down the middle? Ie you have the handle and flap to lift and select gear, the arm that goes down into the box. That strip which hides the internal workings is missing. So dust and crud can fall in.

You can see what gear u are in, D 321 ect.... its the tiny thin strip in the middle thats missing

am sure thats the one!!! will have A SEARCH FOR IT ITS STILL IN THE VAXHALL PACKAGING UNOPEND!!!

Btw what was that buzzing sound, i mentioned it when i was at yours but forgot  :-[

It comes from the underneath the drivers side door really, wheel arch area.

When the car was idling, and you went, P-R-N-D.. you put it into D and it came on quite loud. Did not do it in 3,2,1 just D & R & P.

Give the car a little gas no more than 1k rpm, let it idle again and the sound had gone  :-/

Ohh hows your little project going, get it running?

Could be a number of things mate but sounds like it gearbox related , have to have a closer look from underneath, Bought car its now in Oxford going to be diagnosed for fault codes tomorrow but im betting crank sensor inop,
the guys spent 6543 pounds on it in the last 3 years just about everthing is new on it!! sold it if i can get it running!!

auto box smooth as silk now the new fluid is taking effect  :D

Have you changed it then? if yes dont forget you can only get less than half out by draining the sumps!! you have to drain it about three times each one after a few runs(ten miles or so) to pump the old out of the torque converter and the new in!! unless you disconnect the oil cooler pipes and start the engine!! thats messy but is gauranteed to get all the fluid out in one go!!
it holds about 11 litres or sossmething like that!!!

Yes, the fun of getting it out of the torque convertor....
Like the idea od removing the return pipe and starting... as long as it's not my car it's being done on! ;)
Gearbox valves trying to work with no fluid... :o

I am trying to remember how much they hold. I think it is around 9.4 litres.

 Hi Tunnie,
              Looks like you got a really nice one in the end :y.
  
 What colour is it, Silver or Grey :question.

  When you do the oil change be very careful when doing up the sump bolt as they are so easily stripped, best use a Torque wrench(talking from experience :'().

 And don't forget i've got a 24Valver sitting on my drive if you need any bits.

LB66... Graham helped me with the fluid, although it was a top up really, and not a drain. When he has a free half day I am planning to pop over to his with all the bits needed to give it a damn good service.

What kind of fluid shall i buy for the auto box? - Got a TC number here, going to try and use that on the dealer down the road for some oil filters.

Sure am.

Drove the Omega back to uni last night because the Senny needs a little TLC before more long runs, the Omega is a fine car. Cruised at 80 fine, instant consumption reading 39mpg.

However, it's just not as fun as the Senator. Some berk in a new Mini Cooper up my backside comming back, god i wish i was in the Senator then to blow them into the weeds up the cutting on the M40 (steep hill section)

In London at the moment, going to try a dealer here. Also been to EH in MK, they turned their nose up at TB's TC card but still managed to get the discount...

Depending who servers me in EH @ MK, I usually end up losing my rag as they make a song and dance about taking my card  >:(
