good days work today
« on: 20 January 2007, 19:28:45 »

Been working on the Senny today, been enjoying it!  :)

First off get it insured, managed to get 3rd party fire and theft with me and a friend on (i am 22 he's 23) - £375!  :D

Next oil change, what a doddle!! - I only had to jack the car up to fit the tray under for the oil. I removed the sump plug and oil filter without the car jacked up!

What came out was really, really thick black oil. I had run the car so the oil was quite hot, still very thick stuff.

Filled it up with 5.75 litres of GM stuff, i thought at first i over filled as it was 2mm over max on the dip stick. Took it for a run, let it settle and now its just under max. Purrrfect.

The oil change has made such a differnce!! It feels a lot smooth and picks up a lot quicker.

Decided to dump the old oil at the tip, decided to call into Omegatoy. He's got a nice project 2.5 diesel estate, he just finished working on it, but MrsOmegatoy had her Mitsubishi Shogun Animal stolen and burnt!  >:(

Bastards is all i could say, its a real shame cause Graham is one of the friendliest guys i have ever met, he has given me a boot full of goodies, trip comp for a 24v senny, clean ICV, rear passenger electric window motor, an ENTIRE V6 inlet manifold, spare bulbs, dizzy rotor arm, water pump... the list goes on.

So big thanks to Omegatoy  :y

Graham also couldn't believe the differnce an oil chance made, its running really sweet now. Next is the ICV...

Sorry to hear about the Shogun. :(

Now the Senator...

The oil change will make a heck of a difference if you were driving with Brent Crude previously!
As I said previously, next oil change in 200 miles, there is a lot of sh*t in there still to come out!

You done the plugs yet?

Wish you'd said you were off to Ardley - I've got a sumpful of mixed oil and water to go down there  >:(  ;)

Now do fuel filter and plugs.

May be worth planning in another coolant change in a couple of weeks when you change the oil again.

£375 - surely you don't have any NCD on that car, or have you got one of those 2 car policys with your existing insurer?

Insurance:

When i first started driving i was named on my mums policy, she had a second policy for my car. And her own for her car, that built up 5 years NCD.... i then got my own fully comp policy with 5 years NCD.

When i rang up, they said does you dad have any other NCD cause it can't be transfered to another policy, i shat my pants here cause i did not know. Gave my mums details, and she said yep... you can have 5 years NCD on that  :D

So got 5 years NCD, TPFT on the senny with seperate NCD so if i prang it, none of our other cars/policys are affected  :D - I also turned down guaranteed hire car as i don't need it and would not apply for Europe. I also asked for cover in Europe, for £60 get TPFT cover for whole of main land Europe!  :)

Senator:

Oil differnce was amazing! Yep another change in a couple of weeks should also do wonders.

Plugs, not done yet. Due to Graham's circumstances he's not had a chance to get them for me. But no problem he said i'll get them in a few days.

Fuel Filter, i know its same place as Omega, is it the same filter? - If so anyone got a part number, not at *work* to get the number my self.

Jaime, does Farthinghoe take oil? - Off to a mate tomorrow to give him some driving lessons (he's got a licence) but not driven in 3 years, plus his last car was a 1.1 Dishitsu Auto!  :-? - So i think some basic lessons in a 3.0 24v Senator in a quiet lane!  ;D

2 Questions for LB66:

1. Dash Remove, how do u get the DigiDash out?
2. The MID for Sennys, how is that taken out? - Got a replacement thanks to Graham!  :) (mine has a blown bulb)

I don't think so, its not a proper tip.

If the filter is a vff818, then its same as 'mega

Tunnie.

Dash removal is easy. Simply look for the holding screws! ;)

Took it out the old Senator easily enough, and could do it now if was in the car, but I am b*ggered if I can remember how to do it right now!  :-[

As for MID, as far as I recall it is simple enough to access once dash is out.

I will consult some software for more information....

But for now I would concentrate on the mechanicals!

What about the brakes? Have you done a full fluid change, checked the discs and pads, checked the handbrake is all good?

Breather system needs to be stripped and checked/cleaned.

As i said before, if you need a spare dash I have one (fully working) you can have . :)

Cheers guys,

Handbrake is good, although I have just been whacking it in park (when the car is still) half the time and not bothering with the hand brake :-[

Not had the wheels off yet, lack of no alloy centre key put me off. I have a bottle of nails someone, could have a bash with 1 and a hammer?

I have noticed its got a pull under braking to the left, seams to be tracking ok on straight flat roads.

I need to get the rears off at somepoint, cause the ABS light keeps coming on.

Unfortunetly money is a slighlt problem now, need to wait until i get some money from a m8 on the split costs of the Senator.

So far i have:

Bought it, paid for train to get there, petrol, oil and filter, more petrol all myself and that's hurt my finances a bit!  :(
