Had a problem the other day..
« on: 27 January 2007, 19:25:42 »

...with the wifes ZT. It just doesn't like the cold weather. Went out at 6:45 on Thurs morning, bloody freezing. Unlocked with plipper and pulled open back door. It wouldn't close again, the lock was frozen solid. I farted around with the CL and managed to close it, but then I couldn't open it again and I had a horrible thought.

How would it be possible to repair a broken lock mechanism if you couldn't open the door to take the card off?????

It thawed out later in the day and was OK but got me thinking.

The answer is so simple it can be answered with another question

What were you doing up at 6:45?

 ;D ;D

I sat in a ZT at the motor show a few years ago, must say it did not impress me that much. Felt very claustrophobic.

STMO is the ZT garaged? Could be worth taking the door cards off and greasing the locks up?

Didn't know you were a detractor of rovers Dave. Still, the last laugh will be mine. The ZT is a great car and, thus far, has cost exactly zero in repairs :y

Well its working now? So best to grease it up!

Having read your post 'properly' now I see what you mean...

Depends where all the screws are? if any are around the seat bench and are covered when the door is shut then your in trouble!

Not a detractor mate, just couldn't resist!  ;D

But I suspect the "thus far, has cost exactly zero in repairs" will haunt you....  ::)

If you weren't up at 6.45 then it wouldn't be so cold, the lock would not be frozen, the problem would not have occured and you wouldn't have wondered how to fix it. Having not wondered about fixing it you don't have to worry about the answer.

its a common problem!!! with a lot of cars!!! answer is just pour hot water over the door panel near the lock and it will free it off as a quick fix, remove doorcards and a good dose of wd40 or duck oil removes the condensation from the locks which is freezing them up,
If you think about it you have the interior nice and snug with the heater on and the outside is below freezing you are going to get condensation in the door inaards!!!
