If yours is not running right, updated s/w will not help.  Not sure if there are any noticible improvements in the engine firmware, unlike the g/box s/w...

I did not notice much difference after upgrading the Engine ECU, so don’t expect miracles, but still I think it’s a good idea to get this done.

The auto gearbox is another story… a must in my opinion. If TheBoy is too far away for you, it’s even worth paying £50 to your local Vx dealer to get it done (only if you trust them – otherwise if they mess it up they’ll just tell you your transmission ECU is gone and make you buy a new one at full price…)

There are also other ECUs worth upgrading, such as climate etc – perhaps TheBoy can provide a list of all upgradeable firmware on the pre and post facelift and place it in the FAQ….

I would PM TheBoy, he's only an hour away from Brum down the M40.

His rates are better Vx, and he'll do an honest job.

No, I haven't made a list yet.

If you have a post 98 car, autobox s/w is recommended.  If you have a 2.5 or 3.0, have a chat to Mtek here about performance chips.  I'm waiting to hear back if updating earlier climate ecus is worthwhile, later ones don't appear to be.  2.6 and 3.2 engine ecus not worth doing, though you may want it reconfigured for cruise...

Obviously, I would expect the latest firmwares to be better, its just you may not see any improvement (auto g/box being exception).

When I took my first Omega to Vx back in 98, they mechanic had difficulties using the Tech1 thingy (that was before Tech2) - I ended up taking the device from him and using my intuition to carry-out the checks... Yes, forget Vx, TheBoy is your man....
