Britain is broken these days it seems. I was walking home from a day out at about 8.30pm, on a busy street where I live, and was the victim of a random assault by a gang of about 10 'kids'. Some were girls who apparently were goading on the boys to do what they were doing.

They broken my nose, chipped 2 of my teeth, cut my eyebrow, and one of them stamped on my leg giving me a rather nasty broken shin bone, meaning I have to wear one of these for the next 6 months.

The police couldn't have cared less, and didn't take statements from me or the one whitness for 2 weeks, by which time it was too late to conduct a proper investigation.

Perhaps it's because graphic examples of gratuitous violence is so readily available on the TV, cinema, video games & the parents have been brought up to think that such behaviour is normal?
In my day it was Champion the Wonder Horse, Range Rider, Wells Fargo etc. just innocent shooting of the ones in the black hats & of course the native indians (nobody told them what a lousy immigration policy they had!)

I understand where you are coming from, but don't fully agree.  In your / our days it was generally Mum at home Dad at work, spanking and slippering if we were naughty, a clip from a police officer and if you got into trouble at school you did not tell your parents because you got into trouble again.

Now, many of these children have a Mother, 2nd or 3rd generation on benefits,  who exercise little or no control, has no interest in where their children are as long as they are out of their hair. There will be no positive Male role model let alone a Dad at home, siblings likely to have different fathers.

I know this is a generalisation, but let's just see what comes to light about their backgrounds.

Something has gone wrong somewhere  :(

When i think back too childhood years i know i was scared too do much wrong for fear of upsetting my parents....god forbid have the police come too the door :o

I have an awful feeling your right and these twisted kids will be shown too come from a scum bag family...who in turn were bred by scum.

There seems little respect for police these days and pretty much no respect for each other and thats not just the younger ones im finding it across most age groups.

Im probably in the fortunate position of being able too pack a bag and leave for a second home overseas....this i feel is now fast becoming a reality rather than a possibility as im finding myself questioning ""Do i want my children too grow up in this society""......not a bloody chance. >:(

i got the cane at school, when my dad founf out a got another wallop from him and wasnt aloud out until he said so, you darent cross your parents as you know you would get a wallop, it taught me to respect other people and there property. 6 kids, dad working away and mum working at the school in lunchtime and we still all pulled together to get on, most of the time. when dad came home at end of week it was whos done what and why and then wallop get upstairs and dont come down till i tell you.. thats how it should be done.

nutter in hillingdon threw a concrete bollard through a kids car window while he was driving after they attacked his son, then he dragged them out and smashed there heads in with a baseball bat, no charges brought as they were too afraid.

another one in hayes. kid knicked a motorbike, bloke made a stake then nailed him to it and was just about to set light to it when police pulled up. same thing, no charges were brought

I know this will go down like a lead balloon but what about bringing back National Service.

It teaches discipline, respect for yourself and others.  We are giving a lot of youngsters money and housing anyway. I know the services are much softer these days, may be they could not cope with some of todays young :(
Time we all got tougher with the criminal element before it takes over.

Just my personal tuppence worth :)

That and the Workhouse, and the Borstals, and we'll be getting somewhere. Teach them that nothing comes without hard work, that you respect those in authority and that if you stray from the path life gets very hard. >:(

And the taxation/benifits system positively encourages this, this imo is a large part of what has gone wrong.

It's heartening to see that quite a few on this forum acknowledge that it's bad.

A Downing Street spokesman said that Prime Minister Gordon Brown had cautioned against drawing any wider conclusions about the state of society

Very naughty not to heed our leader's caution though.  Apparently it's a one-off and there aren't a lot of morally-bereft youngsters looking to take over as we grow older!  :(

I think then that he needs to visit a few towns and cities and have a walk around the 'sink' estates that exist almost everywhere, if he can't find any then I can point him in the right direction.......... :(

If my dogs behaved like that  they'd be put down. So why should those two be treated differently. They will probably end up on crack & using guns next.
