IT help - MAC address Invalid
« on: 07 April 2009, 21:55:44 »

Recently bought a new PC - with an ASRock K10N78 motherboard, amd quad core 9950 processor, 8gb ddr800 ram.

Installed vista64 myself, had probs with ethernet drivers but managed to sort by new downloads.

Ran CPU-Z and said the ram only running at 200MHz (ddr400) so tried to adjust bios which was set to auto but then wouldn't boot :(

had to reset bios with the on board jumpers, but now when it boots it gets to POST and says "MAC address are invalid in both CMOS and Flash" and i have to press F1 to resume :-/

Ethernet doesn't work now and says Nvidia nforce networking cotroller "this device cannt start (code 10)" ???

any help please :'(

how can it loose the MAC addy and how can i get it back

You need to reset your bios or even worse flash it or another cause could be the problem  :).

All may not be lost but I need much more detail  :y

Just looked at your mother board on line, I need to know what ram you got, how you installed it etc. Asrock is typically tempermental. Also what version vista 64 are you running and where did you get it if it isn't an original.

Let me know and I can help you, hopefully, been building and programming for 17 years  :y

Its right...

200mhz is right for ddr400 - DDR is double data rate (ie, dual pumped, using rising and falling edge of clock), so 2 x 200Mhz = 400.  But the memory clock is still 200Mhz.

The mobo though is shite, like all ASRock stuff, and I won't have an AMD cpu in the house either ;D

I need to know what ram you have cos you obviously didn't have this much ram when you ran previous operating system. Are they pairs, what make are they and what are the individual specs of the modules.

And nvidia ethernet chips are notoriously unreliable, with the chipset itself frequently crashing, esp with timing issues.  Pulling the power out of PC for 30s normally cures - note reboot is not enough to reset the ethernet chipset, not is shutting down (as chipset still on due to WoL stuff) - it needs power pulled from back for 30s!

Ram is Samsung 2GB DDR800 FG3/3N 256x4 G0909  K4T16044QQ-ZCF7 - 4 sticks all the same.

Was already installed as bought the pc ready built in case from Pallicomp.

Vista is 64bit Ultimate and don't ask me where i got it from but everything else seems to work fine bar nvidida ethernet :-/

no i didn't it's ddr800 ie 400mhz running twice per cycle to give 800mhz, the bios setting was auto and i changed it to ddr800 not ddr1066

Oh now I understand  :y
I was a little confused before

I agree the ram is fine and overclocking should be ventured slowly step by step and with only the best components, not ASRock  :y
