As much as i admire you for sticking up for this guy, at the end of the day it is not worth the hassle you can get for helping out, i had the same situation a few years back and nearly paid dearly and i can pretty much look after myself having kick boxed for 6 years and boxed for 7 in my youth.......

turning a blind eye and pretending its not happening isn't going to help you in the long run
 one day it could be you or your family members  I bet you wouldn't turn a blind eye to that and you would be angry at passers by not helping out

i am not so sure it was a racist attack  the guy skipped the queue and they were pissed off about it  the fact he happened to black may well be incidental

My  conscience would kill me if i didn't step in and try to help out.

 I have worked in the pubs and clubs industry for 10 years in Glasgow and surrounding areas and have had my fair share of punch ups/kick ins for defending staff from abusive punters etc

 perhaps its just because Ive been doing it for so long it is almost a reflex now?
Ive had a few good kick ins from more than one person and twice from 4 people at once.

 Is there something wrong with me for expecting everyone to be  treated equally and with a bit of respect?

Macho crap ? perhaps it is but I wont turn a blind eye to an injustice as stated already my Conscience would bother me too much

Lads......came back from casualty at 04.00 this morning, it was packed , my thoughts were correct, broken nose and badly bruised cheek bone.
The lad did not jump the queue on purpose, he pulled forward around a car that was slightly stopped to the right of the pump, he thought the guys had gone in the shop.

It was said that it was no a racist attack but it certainly turned into one, you should have heard the verbal attack on his colour.

All said, i am ok, the Jamacian lad is ok, i wont be reporting it to the police, i work away from home a lot and i will not put my family at risk or under pressure from these idiots, and it does happen.

Glad you're OK Pete. I've had first hand experience of this sort of thing, and my mate's wife and four kids wish he'd not intervened, believe me.
Put it down to being in the wrong/right place at the wrong/right time (depending on your point of view).

You need to be able to distinguish between banter and arguement. I did not take offence at what Big Al said and I'm sure he isn't really going to travel 220 miles to beat me up............is he?

Sounds like the garage forecourt staff hid behind the counter and ignored it.....I`ve seen stuff like that happen before and to be quite honest even i`ve been told now not to intervene but just observe and report to police if neccesary.....

I'd always call it in before making a decision whether to intervene or not - 'cos if the worst happens and you start to take a pasting yourself, help is at least on the way.

In terms of the garage staff - if they didn't at minimum call the Police - I am staggered...

I have just caught up with this thread, and I think you did a very brave and noble thing Miggy! 8-) 8-)

Too many people stand back now and simply watch thugs set about others, without even calling the police!!  So many of these thugs think that they can get away with it, and of course in so many cases they do because no-one wants to get involved.  All too often IP's won't even give statements to the police for fear of reprisals. This is what is dragging our society down, and if there were more true citizens like Miggy who are prepared to "step in" and defend what is morally right we would have far less trouble in our society.  

Like Lazydocker I do question why the filling station staff didn't call the local police.  They had a moral duty to do so at least, if nothing else!!
