Swine Flu - What To Watch For
« on: 10 July 2009, 18:46:17 »

just seen the news and it has just been reported that a totally healthy person contracted the disease and has now died.

So just to make myself aware of what to watch for I did some searching.

http://www.nhs.uk/AlertsEmergencies/Pages/Pandemicflualert.aspx

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Pandemic-flu/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

main things are

he typical symptoms are:

    * sudden fever, and
    * sudden cough.

Other symptoms may include:

    * headache,
    * tiredness,
    * chills,
    * aching muscles,
    * limb or joint pain,
    * diarrhoea or stomach upset,
    * sore throat,
    * runny nose,
    * sneezing, and
    * loss of appetite.

Allthough most of the sysmptoms are the same as flu i decided to test myself.

Seems I am ok, as I have just demolished a Mince hotpot and a Toad in the hole.   :P

All I joke I do take this seriously, as must we all do.

And interestingly the UK has had more deaths than any other country except Mexico and the USA.

Is that because we tend to travel extensively as a nation, and our airports act as a major hub for international travel? :-/ :-/

Maybe not the reason, but just an idea. ;) ;)

I had all those (except loss ot appetite) 10 days ago -- still feel ill now -- :o

Mind you -- not saying I am a hypochondriac -- if I read a book about pregnancy I start to swell up !!!!!    ::)

It is in out area now, some kids off school in the next village. I have a chest infection, again >:( :'( got meds on Monday and discovered swine flu around on Tuesday. Spoke to my GP confirmed cases but told me not to worry, a lot of hype around it... as on meds don't need anything else unless temperature gets really high. I am OK except from the constant coughing that gives me a headache >:(

to be honest, you are better of getting it now before it mutates and comes back in the autum even worse

The most important piece of advice reference Swine Flu is, if you thihnk you have smyptoms:

DO NOT GO TO THE MEDICAL CENTRE/HOSPITAL!

You'll just infect everyone there too.  Call the nhs helpline and follow their advice  :y

Get a flu buddy who can go and do things for you like shopping, collecting medicine, etc

If you are immuno-suppressed then get some alcohol gel and be more rigerous about washing hands (soap, towel dry, then gel before hand goes anywhere near face)

Containment is now impossible, so we're all gonna get it its just a matter of when.  :'(

Thats complete horse sh!t  >:(

It wont mutate in the autumn, it'll still be the exact same virus.  It will just be more prevalent as the temperature gets colder people get more vunerable.

Also if you get it now that only means that it wont affect you as much in the future.  You will still be a carrier showing no symptoms and infecting other people.  Swine flu parties are the worst idea ever!  >:(

Tried that -- tastes terrible !!   ;) ::)

PCT here have stopped reporting cases, apparently. Current advice here is "stay at home and live with it".  Don't think they are that callous, just trying to counter the panic causing hype!
