Your router logs will tell you who has been doing what, and when they were doing it.

As far as security goes, go for the best encryption that both the router & your clients can handle (WPA2-PSK is the one you want).

Don't bother with WEP encryption, I (and plenty of others) can break that in under a minute every time...and WPA isn't much better.

Most small dsl routers out there don't do any logging, and most that can rely on a seperate syslog to log to.

WEP is pointless (but better than nought as it still requires effort on part of person trying to use it)

WPA is 'adequate'

WPA2 is the current top kiddie, though many drivers still do not support it.

PSK is always the weak point, as people pick dictionary words normally.  If you have the facilities, Infrastructure/Radius is a better option.

Every chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.
WPA2-PSK is without doubt the best for the "home" user, but if they are going to make it easy by using dictionary words then the system used can hardly be blamed for being "weak"

I'd argue, unless they have fairly new stuff, WPA is best due to lack of WPA2 support on may wifi devices (particularly non-pc wifi devices).

Obviously, WPA2 if you can

To be honest, the only devices I've found so far that can't support WPA2 (and above) are the kids DS's.

The old bag's DS I think can only do WEP :o.  Needless to say that ain't allowed on my network ;D

My old phone can defo only do WPA, not WPA2.  2 of my older laptops can also only do WPA.
