Oooopppps!
« on: 12 September 2009, 17:25:52 »

Bought a GS today  ::)

First before you say it, i went and tried a Honda VFR, soon as i sat on it, i knew it was not for me. Hated the position, weight on my wrists and riding position. Also tried a Kawasaki Verysis, took it for a spin around the lanes, this was very nice, loved the riding position, but the ride was a bit shabby, felt a lot of the bumps. The GS, just flattens everything.

Went to the open day at Oxford BMW, i tried a 06 GS-Adventure with 30k miles, it was up at £6,995 with no panniers.

Something was not quite right about it when riding, and it had been abused a bit, fairly bad corrosion on the plate behind the front wheel, slight rusting on the engine crash bars, some marks on the engine plates and crash bars, suggesting it had been dropped a few times. Generally not in very good state.

I then spotted a standard GS and took it for a spin, it was immaculate! 56 plate but looks like 07 model (newer dash & computer) full panniers, very, very clean example, no marks at-all, no corrosion on back plate, same miles to. But this one had been cared for.

Its just had its 30k service (by BMW) 100 miles ago, ran like a dream. Got brand new front & rear tyres, 12 months MOT, 6 months tax, and a tank of petrol. And usual BMW Warrenty with Europe break down cover, warranty covers everything on the bike, except, pads, shocks, tyres.

Price? £6,050.

Well chuffed, even more chuffed after checking out prices on Autotrader, considering its a BMW dealer, i expected to pay a little more, but there is nothing even close on Autotrader, there are only a couple cheaper listed, but they are all older with no panniers.

It reminded me of the demo bike, as its was in the same condition!

It looks almost exactly like this, but a lighter shade of grey:

yes, the 10k one was the Adventure, which on paper is not that much better.

Bigger fuel tank, fog lights, slightly longer wheel base, slightly better seat, bigger screen.

First day i test rode these it was very, very windy, which blured the differences.

Today, i actually found the standard GS better! Slightly easier to manage too, due to the weight.

Much easier on the wallet too  8-)

Looking forward to doing some camping trips  :)

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not really interested in that, enough storage on the bike itself.

I reckon tent / sleeping bag / airbed & chair on the pillion seat with a couple of straps. Clothes in one pannier, cooking gear in the other pannier,  maybe some spare food. Leaves one pannier spare  ;D
