What method do you use for an oil change,,,  :-/

I take out the dip stick and put a long plastic pipe over the dipstick hole pipe thingy, and suck.  Horrible if you get a mouthful though :D :D :D

Kirkby Central in Rotherham offered a mechanical oil change equivilant to that years aog, and at twice the price.  FFS, how could they do a proper oil change through a dip stick tube. :-/

Before anyone flames me - I must mention that I continue to change engine oil by removing the sump plug.

However - just to encourage healthy debate...

I recently bought an oil transfer pump, designed for clean and environmentally friendly oil changes.

My main intention was for the easy removal of oil from spark plug wells, and waterways when doing head gaskets, etc - to save time and reduce mess.

I did however decide to have a go with the engine on my car.

Stuck the required pipe down the dipstick tube, began the pumping process - and, fair enough, it did it's job.

Just as a test, I then removed the sump plug, and didn't get anything extra out aside of a few drips.

So while I agree with the sentiment - it's better and quicker to remove the sump plug - I think for certain applications, the oil transfer pumps have a place  :y

Some of the older members who used to frequent the other side will remember someone using clothes pegs as a locking kit. Just jammed them between the cogs.
He mentioned his dad was a mechanic and had been using this method for years. Even supplied the pics to prove. ::) :D

And happily left the crudd in the bottom of the sump which the action of the oil flowing througg the drain plug would have shifted.

I had no idea, at the time of posting, that there was such a method... :P :P :P

A simple post along the lines of "that's not really an advisable method" would have done. We're dealing with a new member here.

Don't worry matey, they happily take as good as they give. Welcome to the mad house :y
