What happens is that anyone who has joined today and has taken the time to say hello ends up on the second page with half a dozen replies and is forgotten about.

Yeah, see the problem now. I suppose that section should really live up to what it's meant to be about, good point

This subject is like a bad penny and keeps coming back but for a change it's not a newbie trying to hype up their post count.

havent been in there in over a year. While i agree totally in looking after new members, for what its worth i dont see the big issue with "group welcoming". With the post counts, it will get get attention, they will be welcomed, job done.

As said, i havent been in there for ages, so may well be missing the point, but, if there is such an issue, someone show me a non welcomed member, one that didnt get a fair share? Will be quite happy to change my opinion....?..... for what its worth, only "my" opinion at the end of the day.

Said this before, but imho, its far more upsetting for newbies to be missed out in general help. Doesnt happen very often but far more upsetting if you have a problem and need answers.

Bumped 3 TD owners posts from pages 2 and 3 the other day with zero replies, 2 of those had very few posts as i recall.....but then my memory is shot. :-)

I agree with you there Chris, I have 'bumped' up posts from both general help and electrical with no or unhelpful replies a few times a few times even if I can't help myself. It just gets my heckles up when the newbie section is abused for reasons of post count boosting (especially when it's not needed as in this case).

This section will allways raise conversation.

10 entries a page, 20 hi's and you are on page 3.  If it were 25 entries par page then you would be on page 1, would you still complain that 20/25 actually bothered to take the time to welcome a newbie, rather than spend time complaining about it.

Post counts in that section, if you turn them off the newbie makes a post and doesnt get it counted, do they then bother to carry on.

Catch up, half the time you see members doing this, but they get carried away and go back 2 or 3 pages worth.

You will allways get members raising thier post count with Intent.  They occasionally have a reason to do so, they came on just to sell parts and either post thier intentions in the newbie section, or complain butterly to get the post count up.

What ever anyones post is, is there for a reason.  They took the time to write it  FFS there has been plenty of back biting about my post count, Do I post pictures anymore, do I get involved as much, am I in the top 5 or even top 10 saddo list anymore, maybe there is a reason for that.

I've never complained about your post count (or the pictures ;) nudge, nudge ). The main reason I repeatedly complain about this is that a newbie posts, they get 5 or 6 replies then they are suddenly not on the first page anymore and think they have been deleted when in reality they have been shoved down a page by someone with an eBay deal thinking they can make a couple of quid! Although I don't understand why this was neccessary this particular time???
