Busy Day
« on: 20 March 2007, 17:18:12 »

I started about 11.30 this morning and changed my wishbones, front discs and pads, air filter, fuel filter and plugs. I was going to do the oil and filter and I have bought 4 metal type oil filters and guess what mine's the paper type so I will have to go and get one of those. I thought the paper type came in with the facelift, and the air filter although new was a cooper one and was half the thickness of the genuine one. oh well I'll get me coat ;)

You're ahead of me.  :y  Timbuk's coming down on Sunday.

So what tools do I need for the wishbones?  ;)  Any sign of the spring compressors?  Looks like I need to go to Machine Mart tomorrow.   >:(

My facelift has the metal type oil filter but then it is only a 4 pot.

according to TIS the oil filter change to paper element came in at 1999, I thought it was with the mini-facelift at 1997 too !!!  :-?

rumour has it that you can buy a connecting pipe (P/N 90412159) which screws into the block and you then screw your tin can filters onto that ... assuming it's still available ...

sounds like you done well to get that lot sorted though  :y

Well done Pete :y...Not that I am an expert, but there is a washer that comes with the paper filter aswell...I know this cause I had to change mine with the oil change, cost £3.40 in total, filter and washer.

Generally seems to be changeover around S reg from my experience, not that I would ever contradict M_DTM.

My R reg 1998 has spin on type

yep the paper filter comes with a large-ish 'O' ring, which fits onto the cap of the oil filter housing. This comes in the box with the filter (assuming you buy from Vx!) You also need a smaller 'O' ring for the sump drain plug ...

maybe the oil pump was changed in 97 and the oil filter in 99? As 99 would be 'S' reg ...  :-/
