I have verbally agreed to sell my miggy to a friend, it has 120000 miles on it and is totally reliable, in order to get it through its MOT it needs £200 spending on it.
I have found a replacement, identical in every repect to my current car but half the mileage, it does need 2 tyres a cam belt change and the cat is rattling, it also has a few trolly dings.

do I......

A- keep my car that I know well, fit gas and run it until it drops
B- buy the new one, gas it and run it for a few years

my car has been totally reliable and I need that being self employed, my worry is that the new car whilst lower mileage may have more issues.

my current miggy runs up 2000 miles a month and with business the way it is will contine to do so for at least the next year or so

any suggestions

If you car has been regularly and properly serviced Jay, then 120000 miles is not a lot. They will go a lot longer. Personally, I would keep the one I had.

Also, I think that a car that's done 120000 is a bit long in the tooth to be LPGing. You have probably left it too late to gain the money back before the end of its serviceable life.

Agreed. Problems stated above would cost more than to repair your current car.

I'd run it till 200k then sell, seen many V6's with that mileage.

Unless economy is your issue, if it is, then sell and get a oil burner

Hmmm that may change things....

the gas conversion costs £1250 I figured by the end of the first year it would have paid for itself, I have spent £3250 over the last year in fuel.
the engine is serviced every 3000 miles, would the engine still be good for LPG or are there issues with engines with mileage on the.

OK. Heres the scenario. You convert your existing car to LPG, it runs great for 3 years and you save a lot of dosh. Great.

Or...it conks after 6 months and you lose a lot of dosh.

I suppose the saving grace of the second option is that you could always reclaim the LPG system and fit it to another car.

As you said mate, decisions,decisions :-/

If he is spending £3.2k in fuel per year, take him around 6 months to get it back!

Even a top wack install at 2k will take just 9 months to pay back.

Seams like its worth it even if you just keep it another year, but would make sense to LPG a newer lower millage megga to get the most use

Well if he spends 3.2k a year on fuel thats £266 ish a month in fuel.

2 grands worth of LPG kit will take 8 months ish to pay back?

So, 1.6K on gas per year

2k for a max install

2k would take 1600 / 12 months = 133 saving per month, 2k / 133 = 15 months repayment

Or am I way off here?

the conversion is a multipoint system with a 90 litre tank, can't remember the name it sounded italian.

price was full inclusive of fitting and VAT, I was shocked and so booked it in smartish before he changed his mind
