only one of ours is still at school....  but the school is at the top of a rather steep , and large hill....    which the council have NOT cleared,   The bus service up there is suspended....  given that we have a genuine , measured with a ruler, 11 inches of snow in our front garden....  even if the school were open i'd not be inclined to drive the 8.5 miles or so to try and get there....  all things considered...

hell there's 6 inches sat on the roof of my miggy....  AFTER i'd managed to get out to tesco in it earlier...   took 1/2 an hour of shoveling snow to get a clear run on to the road ....   and when i got back, there was another 3 inches of it.....

bugger that.....

I think that if the Queen can be bothered to venture out into the snow, you have little excuse for staying indoors!! ;D ;D

in my defense....  i know what it's like out there......   last night as it was coming down i had to pick the lad uo from watlington....  our eldest from marston...  and get to sainsbury for supplies...

i'm f***ed if i'm gonna try getting up elms rise/cumnor hill  , the youngest goes to matthew arnold...  and it's heavier on the west side than it is here on the south....

so i've got enough beer and wine to last  me a week or so....  and food for 2 weeks...  or so...

Miggy is out front , and will almost certainly need digging out again if i really HAVE to go somewhere...
thank god the next 2 days is relatively clear....  but when it all freezes solid tonight  it's gonna get scary...

I'm sure if you gun it - all 200bhp - from the A34 roundabout, you'll end up in a spectacular mess have a lot of cheering spectators....

Maybe I'll go tomorrow.

Alledgedly, around these parts, the school teachers/assistants have 'snow days' - a set number of days a year they dont have to turn up if the weather is poor.

FFS.
Its still a proposal at this stage, however, it won't be passed because, as per usual, Northamptonshire haven't gone through the proper proceedures and have contaviened EU law...

Mrs has left Sheffield to drive home. She's covered a mile in 15 mins :(

I need her to hurry because there's a sink full of dishes and I want my tea. ;D

These folks do ..

http://www.snowchains.com

I've had a pair from them for 6 years ...  live in the garage 95% of the time .. but presently in the boot .. :)

Takes less then 5 minutes to fit, drive off the estate, into the bus stop, 5 minutes to remove .... continue on the cleared roads.

Works a dream .. :)

Problem with snow and schools is the dreaded "health and safety" brigade and no win no fee lawyers.

Years ago if a kid fell down and broke an arm there would be no problem. Now with the compensation culture schools can be shafted for thousands >:(
