I'd start giving the head bolts a good squirt of plus gas every so often. Hopefully they'll have freed off by the time you come to do the manifolds.

Gotcha.  I'll start drenching it.

Any advice on doing it when really hot after a thrash?  Would that help shock them loose?  Probably should only do that when ready to do the gaskets.

Yeah, although dropping the engine out is the other choice . . .  :-/

I would spray them when they're cold. The fluid will just evaporate off rather than penetrate if they're hot.

Its this stuff Theo.  Dunno how the price compares, its just a v quick google....

That's the stuff. Also available in aerosol cans. Whatever's more convenient.
