Metric? WTF is that!  :-?
We still live in a world where we use Imperial units all the time, speed limits, pints in the pub, waist size, people give their height & weight in 'English' units ........ etc etc  :y  :y
yer can never take away some things but in the fabrication world yer dont work to 3ft 3inch and a 1/4...its  1000mm thats what i meant

Won't work for pubs, instead of, "lets go down the pub for a pint' we will have, 'lets go down the pub for a litre'

Does not have quite the same ring to it  ;D

As an aerospace structures engineer trained in the U.S,  (and of 1959 vintage) I always have and still do, work in Imperial decimal-inches: 10ths., 100ths and 1000ths.......your 1000mm. would equal: 39.4" in real money. ;)

My decimal-inch scales, verniers, tapes and micrometers are not going to be replaced on a Europhilic whim...this Metric nonsense will never catch on you know! ;D

I'd be proud to do some fabricating on the bench. It'll stand up to some heat & bangs without warping :y :y :y
May i commend you on your welding to, it looks quite fine. I've seen so called qualified welder's dribbles & they're not as good as that.
It looks like you use Spatter Spray? Keep your self away from the fumes, it's nasty stuff :(
What do you cut your sections on? I presume a Band Saw :-?

Thankyou for the kind words Pete.  :y

I do love metalworking; so very satisfying to take metal that has been 'chucked' and make something useful.
I cut the sections using a 1mm. thick 'slitting disc' in a 2.8Kw. angle grinder.....I have a steady hand and can follow a scribed-line quite tidily.
I don`t use anti-spatter spray; I have some, but I find that at the 'sweet-spot' setting on the MIG and with 95%/5% (02/Argon); I can do spray transfer and spatter isn`t too much of an issue.
I find that projects like this, are ideal skill-refining practice for me; using multi-process` and differing material gauges/types.

Which world is that then? I showed a Spanish neighbour an Imperial and Metric tape measure. He thought it was quite quaint. I have the last laugh though as all pipework here is in Imperial!

The MOT station hadn't a clue how to convert miles into Km for the MOT certificate.

Nice bench, when you have finished it come and make us one please?

The only country still using imperial in everyday buisness is the US and I see that congress are concerned as its putting them at a disadvantage.
