Which party has the best education policies?
« on: 06 March 2010, 19:29:59 »

I was interested in STMOs's comments on another thread. To further the discussion and avoid hijacking the other thread, I though I'd post this from UKIP (Yes, you know I support them!). Let's have a debate!

"The UK Independence Party naturally wants to see a prosperous Britain, but does not believe the drive to keep children at school for longer and to send more of them to university will achieve this objective.

Education has now become a tool for indoctrination, with schools becoming crucibles for social engineering. The state has elbowed its way into the “affective” areas of education, which have historically been the responsibility of parents. We do not believe that teaching political correctness or EU propaganda is part of education.

We will allow head teachers the ultimate say in decisions regarding the exclusion of unruly pupils.

We believe that the teaching profession should be allowed to do its job with minimal external government interference. We see no need, therefore, for Local Education Authorities (LEAs) to control policy. Their powers will be given to the school governing body, with schools co-operating in the provision or facilitation of services in schools, such as cleaning, maintenance and school meals.

We will also initiate a review of the school inspection régime, bringing in new legislation whereby parents might require the school’s governing body to arrange for an inspection if 10% or more of parents were unhappy with the school’s performance."

As a school governor, I can't find much fault with this.  :y

It's all very noble Nick, but as they haven't got a chance in hell of making a show at the election, they can promise whatever takes their fancy.

True, Steve, but as they say when you vote for the lesser of two evils, you're still voting for evil.  ;)

Whatever the result of the GE, I shan't be happy I'm sure, but at least I'll be able to sleep with a clear conscience - that I voted for the party which most closely reflects my views.  :y

And I'll sleep soundly knowing I voted for the party which suits my lifestyle best, and break everyone else. ;D ;D ;D

Oh, and when you're next at a governors meeting, don't forget to to tell them how funny you think it is that they are all due a pay freeze and/or redundancy.

Sounds pretty good to me  :y  I do have concerns regarding the amount of power School Governors have though and their lack of accountability to the parents, they would seem to be able to make decisions without having to justify them.................. :-/ :-/

The parties which CAN win the election will do exactly the same. They will lie through their teeth and then do the exact oppisite if it suits them, after the election. Anyone remember Gordons "British jobs for British workers" promise a while ago ? ::)
I think the trick these days is to tell lots of lies all the time and then you dont get picked up on the occasional fib. :(

can i nitpick?

i) In areas of Wales and Scotland
where Welsh or Gaelic are widely spoken, they may be used instead of English.
ii) Foreign language tuition.
iii) Special private schools for the education of children of foreign diplomats or businessmen.

there are no areas of Scotland where Gaelic is widely spoken, in fact for the last 30 or so years, no one in Scotland who speaks Gaelic can't speak English also - it's an almost dead language so I've just saved UKIP a small fortune, it's nice they're thinking of us - but really we've got it covered - you do what you want guys  :y

nitpick over (i'm bored and sleepless  ;))

I'm not that well educated I know, but one question I do have, and there are those of you out there that understand politics far better than I do, so....

What would actually happen if absolutely no one in this country decided to vote on General Election day ?. No votes, so who get's in ???.
Yes I know it would never happen, but what if....?
