They are one of the ones that recessed....required the shims setting every 70-80K miels or they reached the point where they struggled to start when cold.

Other than that, they were a bullet proof engine.

I note that a lot of the modern diesels are going back to shims as the 20K oil changes are affecting the lifter lift

 :-X :-X :-X :-X Never done in the 200K I ran it ::) ::)

20k oil changes frighten me on any engine TBH.

Then you hear of the stuff developed/under development over the pond in the US of A which is supposed to be a "Lifetime" Oil :o :o

Can't be good for the engine :-/

I totaly agree

Exhibit A has to be a certain AR25/35 gearbox......

All the research and advice on the LPG forums indicate that Vx engines .. well the V6 ones in Omegas.. do NOT need additional valve protection .. :)

As said .. on my fitment it was part and parcel of the deal, so I have it on but running at about 1/3 rd the recommended rate. On the grounds it is doing no harm and might, just, be doing a little good ...  :)

Which means it will apply to at least all the large block engines ( the small I suspect will be the same also) as they share the same valves  (Both size, design and part number) and head design  :y

Sounds about right TD.....I remember when unleaded fuel arrived.....Fords were a big no-no for conversion and even the ones that supposidly had hardened seats were suffering badly.

The Vx engines were close to 100% compatible from about 1980!

Mind you, i remember my parents owning a vx caviler mk1 1.6 ..... i think.....they were told by vx it would be fine on unleaded.....6 months later it went to the vx dealer to have double valve seals fitted, as it started burning oil like a gud un.....done under warranty as well!  ;)

20k oil change :o :o

I start to laugh even when my friends tell me they changed at 10K (kms)

I remember some time ago , the mechanic say its not nessary but if you want I can put that mobil 1 to my car (at 7.5 K kms again)  ;D ;D ;D

when he saw the condition of oil  :-? , I insisted use that oil for your car ;D ;D

nowadays I'm using maximum 5K (km) changes (not mobil 1)..short runs damage the oil very quickly :(

Mine were quite happy that is was listed as dual fuel by DVLA... :)

What i am aiming for, makes it much more appealing to them that its listed on DVLA as such, so going to wait until i get V5 back, and then ring them up  :)

What if, god forbid, something happens in the mean time?

Reckon its worth ringing up now?  :-/

That's up to you... But you are currently driving around in a car with declared modifications.

Who are you insured with?
