Theres not a hope in hell that Concorde will fly again, much as I'd like to see it fly..

This. I think was the original article about Concorde. Its about running the engines not flying.

Much as I hate to say it, I tend to agree. When you look at the trials and tribulations that brought XH558 back into the air, and the ongoing struggle to keep it there, I think attempting it on an aircraft of so much greater complexity will be a hiding to nothing.

I think Concorde is something the like of which we'll never see flying again, I'm afraid. :'(

Commercial aircraft design now focusses  on stamping out the same old cigar tubes with turbofans bolted on. Nothing innovative gets a look in unless it makes them cheaper to operate.

I fear BA did too good a job at breaking and parts dispersal !

BA made absolutely certain that all of theirs were put beyond ever flying again. >:(

Spiteful batsrads. :(

Kevin

Indeed, they put huge efforts in stopping Branson buying them as well.

He would have run them at a loss, because he knew the image they had. But i reckon he could have made them profitable again, Virgin are making record profits, were BA are loosing hand over fist.

I just hope they restore it to an Air France look, as BA don't deserve it and get all thats coming to them

kin ell - i agree with tunnie  :y
BA couldn't wait to mothball concorde as it was costing too much, the minute Air France had the accident they pounced  :(
It is actually the only time in history I can think of whereby we went backwards technologically - concorde was an awesome sight, and it got canned after one incident? do ferrari scrap their f1 car if it ploughs into a barrier? do man united scrap their first team if they lose a game? ridiculous  :o
concorde  getting decomissioned had more to do with  9/11  and people not flying  than  the air france crash.

Although BA did their best to make sure no one else got to operate concorde  it has to be said they ended withthe same number of planes they started with

Air france lost 2   they crashed one and bent another one with a hard landing on its tail

BA were making money with their concordes  air france  were loosing loads of cash with theirs  and at the time they were in talks with a merger with KLM .
The maintenance deal for concorde was a joint thing between air france and BA  and when Air france pulled the plug  Ba had the choice of  pay the whole cost of the maintenace program to airbus  or retire the BA fleet.  A lot of cash to keep 5 planes in the air.
