Retro footie matchball question
« on: 19 June 2010, 08:08:22 »

Hi all,

Not sure if anyone will remember, but in the early 80s a ball was used (in the FA Cup FInal I thought) that had a thick red band around it

The red band was horizontal coloured panels with 2 vertical panels on the "face" of the ball where the name and logo were

If anyone can remember it can you let me know what it was called cos I cant find a picture anywhere on the internet of it at all

just thinking tho......there wouldnt have been as many manufacturers or balls used back then would there? maybe worth checking the likes of adidas/nike/mitre websites, they must have history of the more "famous" balls made?

Yep I thought it was Mitre, the Delta was out a bit later than this ball though

As mentioned above, we spent many many hours knocking one of these around and I would love to find one somewhere

It was a lovely looking ball for it's time! :)

Yep, remember watching Archie Gemmill knocking them around in the 1978 World Cup

Interesting that the design has been tweeked over a 20 year period.....
