Senator/Omega
« on: 18 July 2010, 22:08:09 »

Hi, has anyone on this forum owned (or still own) a Senator, or Carlton? If so why did buy it/get rid? Why did you you buy an Omega and which do you think are better? Why are Vauxhall going FWD?

had a 24v Senator, its just not as refined as the Omega in terms of ride. I did prefer the S6 24v to the V6.

RWD cars are much more expensive to produce, and lets face it, most of pubic don't have a clue. In the winter i saw someone put snow socks on their tyres on a BMW 530, someone else decided to 'copy' them, and put snow snocks on the rear tyres of a VW Polo  ::)

Hard though it is to believe, Omegas don't rust as much ;D

Already proven that the Omega is a faster car, and the ride is far superior.

You ARE joking, right? :o
Senators have a much better ride than any Omega B - your suspension on your Senator must have been thoroughly shot if yours was worse!

I have a Carlton, built from a 2 litre GLi to a 3 litre GSi spec, with added 'Lotus Metal' body parts.

As suggested it was age of the Senator which prompted me to sell mine. I still wish I had it though. I don't neccessarily agree that the ride is better on an Omega, different, but not better. I loved the 'comfort' setting of the Senator's 'ride control suspension. Probably better rust prevention on an Omega ... just! ;)

If only I'd had a spare £10k when the Lotus Senator was for sale a few years ago  :(

I really disagree with that.
OK, the MV6 is a good ride but different springs and shocks to other Omegas -which wallow - and the faster you go in an Omega, the more they wallow, opposite for a Senator - especially with the 3 postiion suspension settings.

No, come one, Senator was 80's design. Omega is far, far, far superior in ride and handling.

there's not a lot to choose in the difference, so I can't say that an Omega B can be that much better.

I'm not getting into an argument mate ( even though you're sooooo wrong) - but just cos the Omega B is newer, doesn't mean it's better, does it?

I've had two Sennys, yeah they've got pros and cons but I wouldn't necessarily say the Omega is more comfortable, even though it's very comfortable! Joint 1st most comfy car Ive been in! People always laugh at me when I tell them that IMO Omegas (and Senators) are the perfect all round compromise between speed, power, performance, luxury, economy, space etc etc and that it's a great all rounder! I think most people don't have a clue and would rather pay £££££££££££ monthly payments for their modern fashionable FWD supermini that won't last as long as any Omega!

The problem is everyone will remember the Senator the 'best', I ran both for nearly a year. I drove the Senator for a couple of weeks, jumped straight into the facelift and its was immediately apparent how much better it was.

Consider it a (significant) refinement of the senator, and helped drastically by much lighter engines, better positioned, to give the car better balance.

I'd be the first to admit your Senator hard tired suspension.  But then you would be the first to admit that your Omega you are using for comparison has even more tired suspension (as it 150k on original shocks :o)
