I see what you mean about the camera work!  Someone won the competition at the local primary school to do it? ;D ;D

[edit]Just saw the 787 fly over my house.  I was a bit slow getting the 500mm lens on and the net curtains out of the way.  It does shift!

Great shot of the 787, Chris! A beautiful plane and to see it with the two spitfires was a great moment.

With regard to the "cameraman", I believe there wasn't one! From what I gather, the equipment uses a tracking device and is mainly used in aircraft nosecones for search & rescue and surveillance work. As a result, until lock-on is achieved, it can appear as if operated by a drunk. I think the same happens in police helicopters and the like. Very jerky until target  lock-on and, of course, they're are not really meant for tracking aircraft flying at 200 knots in at wildly varying distance and heading.  :y

I watched the video stream and they promised to interview the controller of the device tomorrow.

My guess is that it is joystick controlled if not auto-tracking but there were times when it appeared to switch from super-steady close-up to wild wide shot.  If it can lock on then I don't know why there were so many clearly 'searching the skies' movements.

You could be right, Chris. Maybe it needs joystick control to find the target and only "locks on" then. If I miss the explanation, please let me know what they say!  :y.
