Is Zeus a Mongrel?
« on: 09 September 2010, 18:52:49 »

We have a Gorgeous Roxer Puppy who is now 13 weeks old.

His Daddy is a Pedigree Rotty, His Mummy a Pedigree Boxer.. so does this make him a Mongrel?
When I mentioned this to Mrs. Loo-knee she pulled him to her chest and put a hand over his unmuffled ear ;D ;D ;D

What do you reckon??

I'm with Zok. It is a mongrel.

I am sure he looks fabulous though. Just don't post any pics or the better half will be after another dog :o :o :o

Generally mongrels make for better pets. :y
They're not so highly strung and are less prone to any breed related health problems.

If it has 2 pedigree parents, then it's a crossbreed, not a mongrel, surely?  :y

Agreed .. and "crossbred" is where the lineage of the parents is known, "mongrel" is when the lineage, or even "who" the sire is, is unknown.

In dogs, crossbreeding between two purebred breeds has become very popular, due to the belief that doing so increases hybrid vigor without any loss of attractiveness of the dog. The general public sometimes confuses the term crossbred when actually referring to a mixed-breed dog (also known as a mongrel).

However, certain planned cross-breeding between purebred dogs of different breeds can produce puppies worth more than their purebred parents due to the high demand.
To eliminate confusion and enhance the marketability of crossbred puppies, breeders of crossbreds sometimes refer to them as "hybrid".
