We need to invest in high tech manufacturing.

As to party leaders the current PM is growing on me.

But how can we possibly compete with China, India etc?? :-/ :(
I hear India is not too hot on bridge-building at present!  Could we not start there? ;D ;D

The only answer that springs to mind Z is to install a socialist dictatorship who immediately declare all forms of wages null and void, and state that henceforth all manufacturing level comrades will be paid the same amount - 2 bowls of rice per day. ::) ;)

 ;D ;D ;D ;D

They could all live in state or company owned apartment blocks which would need to have safety nets installed outside the windows of all floors above ground level , in order to prevent shop floor level comrades from throwing themselves out of the windows because it seems a better option than going back to work
This apparently is how the factory which produces the ipad works.

Albs , those what you tell is valid for a poor eastern country which have no resources , no production facilities , nothing to sell and a very low level of education which cant produce anything.. I'm afraid those horror stories were at the beginning of 20 th century and left between the dusty pages of history.. ;D

yes.. if you have to rise up from zero you have to tighten your belt to the limit..  But if you imagine that for UK thats funny.. ;D

however its a fact that all US and UK citizens are under a big risk of high external debit.. of which from time to time market dominating groups use that factor to pump more blood from your veins to theirs >:(

its a known fact that the money flows from less developed countries to developed countries and from there to banks and to its final destination,   dominating groups offshore bank accounts..

now remembering the fact that most of those big banks are owned anyway by those groups no govt on earth have the power of playing tough with those banks .. whoever tries will pay with their lifes including the presidents.. history prooved that..

but one day , things will change..

Cem - I wasnt speaking literally. I was making the point that workers in China and other emerging economies are paid very low wages and have poor working conditions in comparison to western countries. So it is almost impossible for western countries to compete against them when trying to manufacture and sell goods on the global market.
The factory where the ipad is made is such a terrible place to work that the suicide rate among workers was appalling. So much so that the apartment blocks where they all live like battery hens has had nets installed to catch them when they jump out of the windows.
This is in a socialist state, where everyone is supposed to be equal etc. ;)

Most of the banking sector get their bonuses in January, although some of them have to wait until as late as September. ;)
It is sad that a lot of public sector workers will lose their jobs, but the fact is that the last govt. created an extra 700,000 or so jobs in the public sector and that just isnt sustainable, nor should it be.
It can only make sense in the minds of people like Brown who believe in the big state. A country where the state controls almost everything and everyone. The UK was half way there imo, but hopefully it is now taking some small steps back in the other direction.
The thing which is going to make the situation much worse for those who lose their jobs is the fact that the last govt. also allowed a completely unrestricted flow of millions of immigrants into the UK, so there wont even be any spare job capacity in the private sector to soak up the jobs lost in the public sector.
Those b*****ds have a hell of a lot to answer for. >:(

yes ..the reason why eastern economies start rising up..

but more than that we are too much eating fat monsters(actual word replaced ;D)  and cant move our arse to work ;D ;D

sorry just a joke.. ;D :y

I hope in the near future we will not change the roles with them ;D

partially.. but their level of economy, civilisation and also education dont permit to be complete..
however I do believe it will change in future

That one still gives me a wee laugh son. :y

In the not too distant future the architects of China's march to the top tier of world economies may well realise that there's no such thing as a free lunch.

When people (en masse) become aware of their wider environment through better education, exposure to media and so on, their acquiescence may not be so readily depended upon.

With vast movements in the populace necessary to fuel unchecked growth, with citizens thrown off land to make way for development and with the air of expectation invariably exhibited by those who form part of this economic 'miracle', China may find that there's a downside to her chosen path.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the Chinese workers unionise themselves. It shouldnt be a problem really as they have a socialist state. Everyone will be on the same side. ::) ;)
If it all goes Pete Tong, I wouldnt want to be in the middle of it.
There is an awful lot of them, and if they all start getting angry.... :o
If things carry on as they are though, China will rule the world in the near future. The U.S. will be like a minnow in comparison.
Apparently they currently own so many U.S. Govt. bonds that if they cashed them all up in one hit, the U.S. economy would instantly collapse. :-/

yep .. population about 1.3 billion.. ;D ;D
even half of that can create a big mess..

yes.. but the problem is if they try to exchange all of their money and bonds, it will be no different than a long printed toilet paper ;D ;D
