Is it really a good idea to have a mere woman running the country?

I'm not being sexist but......think of all the "inbuilt"problems.....Periods.....PMT.........HRT......mood swings.....and neuroticism..to name but a few...It's a job for a man.... :y :y :y

Optimist!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I bet your other half is not going to read your post! ::) ::) ::)

I know, you are trying to get me into a debate on Maggie?  ::) ::) :D :D :D :D :D ;) ;)

When she was in power I was young/naive/stupid enough to believe in Socialism, so I detested the woman.
I still believe that although she did a lot of things that needed doing, some of what she did wasnt done because it was necessary, or even due to idealogicol reasons. It was pure spite.
The unions and the miners in particular brought down the previous Tory Govt. of which she was a member, and she hated them for it and was determined to get her revenge. That moron Scargill ( and many of the other Union barons) gave her all the excuses she needed and she trampled them into the dust.
The result was the complete ruination of many industries and communities probably for ever, and the North of England and Scotland havent forgiven the Tories, and despite great efforts by the modern version of the Tory party, they probably never will. Her enforcer in chief was Tebbit, and even he admits now that they went too far in some respects.
The unions needed sorting out, they were on the verge off running (and ruining) the whole country, but I believe it could have been done with less collateral damage than she caused.
She did however put the UK economy back near the top of the world league and even today it still is, so we have her to thank for that. She gave working class people ( who still had a job) the opportunity to own their own houses and become shareholders - it really was a revolution, and much of it was a good thing.
She did however claim that she would reduce the tax burden, the burden off over legislation, and reduce the size of the state and public sector, and roll back the influence of Brussels - all  of these things were bigger when she left office than when she came in. So to a large extent, from an idealogical point of view, she failed.
Having said all of that - I do agree that the country could do with someone similar to her ( but not quite the same as) today.
I wonder what state the country would have ended up in if Labour had won the 1979 election ? It doesnt bear thinking about imo. ;)

Thankyou  Lizzie. I was advised by a friend recently that I should consider becoming a mature student - studying politics
My response was that I wouldnt wish to attend an educational establishment which allowed entry to people as dim as me. ::) :D ;D ;D...........besides I always hated school. ;)

If maggie was so good why didnt she do the Falklands war when she first knew about it Instead of waiting for the election? She also did POLL TAX .
All Politicians like the public because we forget very quickly..

She didn't!!! ::) ::) ::)

The Falklands were re-taken within 74 days following the Argies invasion, and after she had determinedly ordered a Battle Task Force to be assembled.  It had nothing to do with an election, although the 1984 GE victory was greatly assisted by the Falklands success. ;) ;)
