they both had phenomenally fast hands, I'd say Ali had better/faster footwork but Tyson had way more power, then again I reckon Ali would have Tyson beat before they got in the ring tricky one tho both at their peak they were amazing then again Tyson totally dominated the sport in his heyday, but Ali had much better rivals  :-? :-/

Good point - Tyson didnt have to take on the likes of Frazier/ Foreman etc. Just like Scumacher never had to race against Senna/ Mansell/ Prost/Piquet etc. A very important element when considering the greatest of all time in any particular discipline

Very good point I have thought the same about Rocky Marciano, I don't really know anyone he fought other than the Great Joe Louis but he was 40 odd and trying to scrap money together Great Shame

i am a fan of boxing as well ,don't watch it much these days as i'm into mma and think boxing has had its day and mma is the way forward... Ali was a legend ,but he didn't have the explosive power of tyson..think if we are talking tyson 86-89 tyson would take it...although alot of tyson's opponents in that period looked defeated before they stepped in the ring..Ali wouldn't have that fear...it certainly would be the fight of the century

He was srarting his career as theirs were coming to an end - tragically early in Senna,s case. My point was that these 4 acheived what they did while competing against the others. Imagine what they would have acheived if any one of them (Senna in particular imo) had their career without having to compete against the other three.
Scumacher didnt have that much top drawer competition in his career (and none from his team mates) Hill had a superior car for a time,Hakkinen had a couple of good years in a good car etc.
The only one who could (and should) have rained on his parade over a long period of time was Jacques Villeneuve. He was the only one who reaaly got inside Scummys head and had him running scared but he left Williams and took his career up a blind alley, which he never recovered from.
I can still remember him driving around the outside of Scummy at Suzuka (the spooncurve iirc) and Scummy looking to his right in sheer disbelief - it wasnt considered to be possible. Nor was it thought possible to take Eua Rouge at Spa flat in top, until he did it. Even the team didnt believe him until they checked the telemetry.

Henry Cooper could hit but cut very easy. Clay/Ali could take a hit even if it meant climbing off the canvas, the only thing then he would punish you verbally as well as physically I remember in some of the footage I have some boxer would not respect the fact he had changed religions and name, so kept calloing him Cassius... so instead of Ali knocking him out which he could have done at anytime he wanted, he battered him none stop for the full 15 rounds 
People have said Tyson was like Smokey Joe Fraizer but I really dont think so.... Smokey granted could hit but wasnt a mover... were as Tyson could hit and hard and move like lightening in his Great days.....
If Ali could prevoke Tyson and anger him (which I would not like to do ) then use the ropes like he was famous for maybe he could destroy him mentally?
If Tyson could catch Ali with his breath taking Power and Speed then that relentless killing instinct when his opponent was unsteady???

But although I am a Tyson Fan, I really believe in my heart of hearts that Ali would prevail... When you see the Foreman fight the size of him... you would have expected Ali to get killed, but he really knew that himself and so played his games... this in my honest opinion is what would have happened with The Great Iron Mike

I agree Daz. I believe that Ali would nhave applied his intelligence and made sure he destroyed Tyson mentally before they even got in the ring.
