Torque Wrench Advice Please
« on: 11 May 2007, 11:19:21 »

Hi All
I'm trying to kit myself out to become self sufficient on repairs. I'm currently looking at Torque wrenches. There appear to ba a wide variety of types and prices, so rather than learn by doing, I was wondering if there are any recommnedations from the group regarding

1. The most useful in terms of range (e.g. 8 - 150 NM etc), or do I need several to cover the range.
2. The best manufacturer/ supplier  regards price performance (e.g. Halfords do 2 range variants, but they ar £50 each - is this about the right price?)
3. Good online stockists

Thanks Pat

you need 2 for the omega for most jobs and 3 to do all jobs.

I have a sealey for up to 25nm and a huge draper from 25nm to 180nm.

Think some jobs need one up to 210nm though.

Sealey always get my vote - but not cheap  :-/

Recently purchased one from Halfords, (Professional Torque Wrench) range is from 40 - 200 Nm with half inch square drive, it was £49.99 and it is a lifetime warrenty.
Apparently anything you buy from Halfords with the "Professional" mark is lifetime warrenty.

I have a Halfords trade card Pat. Not sure if it covers tools but you're welcome to use it if it does.

That looks a good bet......

Idealy you want a 1/2 inch one as well for wheel nuts etc.......but they are cheaper than the low range ones...

Thanks all, I really appreciate the advice. I'll go for the Sealey on Ebay. (Thanks for the Halfords TC offer Steve)
