Dunno how not to sound like a hypocrite on this one. I'm not into over body kitted Puntos with a baked bean tin hanging off the exhaust, i killed one off the lights with my caravan in tow!!! That said we were all young once. I remember covering most of the interior of my old fords with fur & a chain link steering wheel in my teens so understand bad taste.
At 21 it's fine, enjoy it even if the "music" is pants. Still doing it at 31??? Oh dear! :o ::)

You were a pimp?  :o ;D

lets face it there ARE a lot a stereotypical chavs about who can only afford a saxo or similar and havent the nouse to know that all the money they have spent on their K&N filters and mongoose exhausts will add virtually nothing to their cars bhp. Nor have they much incling regarding "proper" mods that would enhance their cars performance and handling-let alone much in the way of any aesthetic appreciation ;DThat said they are, literally ,still kids and like all kids have much to learn and much growing up to do. Never forget we were all kids once ourselves! More importantly however, quite a few of these kids, if they continue this interest DO learn, they join clubs and as they get a bit older and earn a bit more they then move on to more expensive cars and they learn the value of money and really look after their pride and joys. We used to have a lot of problems with the "chavs" and their motors on our works carpark at night, pulling donuts, music blasting out, crashing into things and the local residents up in arms because of the noise. These days we get the odd meets from people like the local integra club and they are totally different-well behaved, polite, very knowledgeable about their cars and some of their modded cars are lovely. So, yeh, wouldnt taint all modders with the same brush by any means :y

I've modified my car, I've put the 'go faster' stripes on back to front, so that everyone can see I now go slower......

What about your rubber crankshaft?

OOPS! Your insurance company might be listening. :-X

Right there, nail on head, every body starts somewhere to one level or another, and usually first lesson is don't spend money on appearance like spoilers and wheels, then find you have no money left for tyres and oil. Then an engine rebuild because there's no water in it....init!  ;)or forgot the cam belt life and it fails, if it doesn't get written off first.

First car, it will get pranged and messed about with, and neglected in all the wrong areas. In short.... learning. We all did it. Even if it's fluffy dice under the mirror, yet how righteous we are.

My take on this is that some groups have fun with stereotyping and the "Saxo Brigade" is an obvious candidate.  If you don't think you fit into that category then stay cool;  you're not in it.  But you must remember that you are running adjacent to that line of humour and may get some spray off it.

When I think back to the "mods" we all used to do at one point, I cringe.  There were the stick-on stripes, the exhaust trim (one Philips screw to attach! ;D), that "chrome" strip you ran down the seams on Minis after soaking it in warm water, wheel spacers, and of course the Peco silencer.  Oh Yes, and STP stickers?

Well you said feel free to have my say.  So I will.

There's a reason why cars like the Saxo/Corsa/206 etc are labelled as chav chariots.  Their relative cheapness puts them in reach of spotty, tone-deaf oxygen thieving streaks of piss, while their cringeingly bad so-called modifying antics merely mirror their low intelligence and continuing waste of the planet's natural resources.  Slapping tint on glass & lights, shoving a drainpipe on the end of the exhaust and gaffer taping lights onto the floorpan ain't modifying, it's just conspicuous consumption of tat made by people working ridiculous hours in the Far East.  Cutting three inches off the spings ain't modifying, it's a demonstration of utter ignorance of suspension dynamics.  Throwing in wire-melting amplifiers ain't modifying, it's a complete lack of appreciation of ICE and how to really appreciate music irrespective of your tastes.

Modifying just ain't what it was........  ;)

see this is what im getting at. yes you have your opinion and im not arguing with that.... however near enough said that any small car that has been modified (i.e saxo's, 106's etc etc) are all owned by chavs......
And modifiying is what it is to be honest.... everyone has their own tastes on it... even if it is gaffer taping lights to the floor pan. And in my opinion, if i car has been lowered... unless they are doing proper track days and have purposly built their car for fast road/track then a lowered car is simply for the look it gives, they wont care about the dynamics of the suspension.

See thats another thing that really gets on my T**s, people seem to think to have a decent modified car means it has to be really fast........ WRONG! people go into modified cars for various things: Styling, ICE, Performance but most of all, individualism! a modified clapped out old car is more than likely been further made to look like it, the "rat" look. Cars with rolled arches, deep dish rims and over stretched tyres have been made to the "Euro" look. and "Jap" is near enough what it is... jap cars usually done to a performance spec (Drag, Drift, Track)

Rant part 2 over  :y :y
