I'd order from Millwall's takeaway, love Indian food & black pud! Let's keep this in perspective though. Whilst i sympathize with folks elders being denied a bacon sarnie the hard fact of the matter is we generally are no good at keeping our own industries going without help from foriegn workers. I was'nt aware til now this involved care work but many land, factory, hotel/catering, transport. warehouse staff & more are migrant workers. The hard working among us know only too well this is down to this is down to bone idle brits not wanting to do it themselves....someone has to do it. I know the Pork is a religious issue. We've had the religion debate more than once & those of you who are rush quickly to your defence. I find not eating pork as ridiculous as believing in God.
     Two sides to every coin.
No offence Guy, but thats utter 'dangle berries'. Its greedy short sighted business people paying a lot less money to recent immigrants and getting away with it, combined with govt. policy which has made it an attractive lifestyle/ career choice to live on benefits.
I have 35 years of working experience and have seen a lot of extremely hard working Brits, and have also seen useles, lazy, couldnt give a toss attitude immigrants. Most Brits are not ime bone idle, and most immigrants ime are not superhuman grafters. :y

I know many of my opinions are bollix on here but i see this every day up & down the country. Difference is there are those that come here to work (& they do) because many (not all) UK hair gel trackie wearing youngsters want a job for an hour a day with a lunchbreak. I've been in B&Q warehouses where the foreigners are working like break & the UK youngsters are hanging about playing with thier phones. Asylum seekers is another issue but Eastern Europeans are grafters.

I think Albs you are a little harsh on Guy, you and I know what he means and he has a very valid point...

Not so sure we have the immigrant workers taking jobs up here as perhaps other areas have, but I can find work for almost any unemployed person over 18 who would pass a CRB check.

As you say, work would pay minimum wage or thereabouts, benefit system makes it easier not to work for many many people..... >:(

And I have worked in a wide range of Jobs for 38 years so can speak with some experience..only my opinion of course... :y

ive worked with a lot of east european tradesman in hotels restaurants and building shopping centres, and most of the time 1or 2 know there job and feed the rest information what to do in there own language. you wont find many doing the job now cause most have been sussed out and the comebacks to companies and the agencies has been very expensive. manual labour they might be good but give most of them some tools and they are useless. good hard working tradesmen have lost there jobs through greedy companies seeking maximum profit and employing these people cause they are cheap. it happened in germany yrs ago and they came here cause they could get away with it for a few yrs and now the bubble has burst there workmanship is attrocious.ive seen no more than half a dozen on site this year, and they are the few who are worth there money. i do not have any disrespect for them as people but giving them work because they are cheap rather than to skilled men offends me and everyone i know who is a tradesman. the govt has thrown benefits at people to keep them quiet and so there is no training for the younger generation now to get a decent trade so most dont give a shite anymore.

Sorry, but if new owners are going to dratically change things then they should not be allowed to take over.

Look at KFC.

We are not a Muslim country but yet I feel they are taking over.

that should read we are not a muslim country yet, western culture is a dying breed and unless europe has a massive baby boom it will be over run

dead right and the more they learn about the system the more they become the leeches, i worked with one polish lady who had a son back in Poland and she got 500 pounds per month because her kid wasn't living with her now there's a good scam. And i do believe most English blue collar workers are grafters all the ones i have worked wih were i don't think you can compare it to a B&Q workforce! the only problem is lack of English blue collar workers in a restaurant of 50 staff we had 3 english in there!

Personally can see both albs and amigo's points of view. I personally know of far too many "brits" who live off the benefits system that New labour allowed them with absolutely no  intention of working. I also know of many who work damned hard and its them that support the former. We have many (mostly Polish) drivers who work for my company and they too are hard working. I personally do not know of many "immigrants" that play the system, but that is purely down to the demographics of where I live. The real point is that, whatever colour you are or whatever country you come from , there will be those that play the system at the expense of others. I do however agree with Amigo that there are instances where "brits" are moaning about foreign labourers taking jobs when they got these jobs not because they would be payed less but because the "brits" at the time didnt want to do them. Just saying that it is  not always the case of companies employing foreign labour because its a cheaper option, though this undoubtedly happens!

Just had a couple in the office today. Put up some nice 700mmx1200mm wall cupboards designed to contain files. Files full of paperwork are, of course, not especially light. ::)

Fixed them to the plasterboard partition wall, but it's OK because they fixed them to a couple of 3x2" battens, and they are plenty strong enough to take the weight.

What are the battens screwed to? Oh, the plasterboard wall.

I'm surprised the cupboards alone are still up.

They are returning tomorrow to fit some sort of anti-gravity device. I can't wait. ;D

The kitchen is almost finished, and its a dogs dinner. Anything which was cut by a saw would have been neater if it had been chewed by next doors labrador, nothing fits properly, the doors are all different shades and the kitchen door was stuck open as it was wide open when the worktop was fitted but the worktop was cut too long therefore the door wouldnt close. The answer was going to be to cut the corner off the worktop too allow the door to close, until I suggested unscrewing the door from the hinges and then rehanging it. If I was paying the bill they would have been chucked off the job half way through the second day.
Completely useless. >:(

I did.

I think its summarised by the last para or two...

Said a former member of staff who still has connections with the home: 'I believe Dr Khan intended to serve only halal meat at the home but has had to think again because of the row.

'The staff have been very unhappy and the manager has just left, one of several to go in the last few years.'
