Katie Price (aka Jordan)
« on: 09 December 2010, 21:04:52 »

I have little interest in the antics of said person, or her former husband, or her current partner. However, it is difficult to escape some knowledge of her and her clan. She has a severely disabled son, Harvey. One would be entirely heartless, if not sick, to poke fun at  an 8-year old who suffers from septo-optic dysplasia which has left him blind. He also has a condition that makes him gain weight easily meaning he finds walking difficult. Furthermore, he also suffers from autism which leads to behavioural problems.
his disabilities.

But, if you're someone called Frankie Boyle, who is apparently a comedian, it's fine to say things like "Jordan and Peter Andre are still fighting each other over custody of Harvey  - eventually one of them will lose and have to keep him."

and, "I have a theory about the reason Jordan married a cage fighter - she needed a man strong enough to stop Harvey from f****** her..."

Channel 4 have refused to apologise, saying "Frankie Boyle is one of the highest profile comedians in the UK; he’s well known for his controversial humour and the programme carried appropriate warnings as to the nature of the material." ::)

No, CH4, he's not a comedian. A real comedian would NEVER make jokes about a disabled 8-year old. What has happened to real comedy in this country? So-called contemporary "comedians"  always play the "freedom of expression" trump card when it suits them, yet are the first to poke fun at those they deem to be prejudiced.

I find jokes about disabled kids sick, but I suppose I'm in a minority in this anything-goes new media world. :(

You're certainly not in a minority Nick, I think every right minded person finds anything like that totally abhorent, it's just that they/we/me!  :-[ don't do anything other than tut & sigh at 'how things have gone to the dogs' when we should be screaming blue bloody murder at every opportunity to get things changed for the better! :(

He has made a career of this type of thing. He was in trouble about a year ago for something similar, I cant remember the details. I suppose it keeps his name in the papers, but I think he goes way beyond human decency and well into the territory of vile.

I am a human being.  I think it is funny.

It's comedy.  It's intended to shock.

F Sakes, someone will soon get upset about watching a Horror Movie and shitting their pants.

Since when has comedy meant to shock? Am I missing something here?  ::) ::)

There are (or should be imo) limits of decency, and he seems to deliberately cross the limits at every opportunity, as a means of making a name for himself. Its not even an original joke, its been around for years, it has just had the kids father ( cant remember his name atm) substituted with Peter Andre

I'm all for comedy. I generally don't care how offensive it gets. I don't offend easily, but there are limits. >:(

It has to shock to get an audience when it's not actually funny. ;)

Exactly. :y My limits of offensiveness are pretty high (Derek & Clive, Kevin Wilson etc) but gratuitous cruelty aimed at a severly disabled individual child (just because his mum happens to be an infamous slapper) is beyond the pale.

BigAls right - if you find that kind of thing offensive then heres a tip dont pay to go and watch Frankie Boyle. besides, I've heard worse stuff in the playground when i was a kid so lets put away the vapours, pick up the monocles that have popped out (again) and carry on shall we  :y

For the most part I don't find stand-up routines particularly engaging but it seems that quite a few people do.

It's a reflection of the changing face of society I suppose that such subject matter is considered to be fair game - rightly or wrongly many 'comedians' exploit this 'tolerance' for purposes of self-aggrandisement or topicality or 'edge' - it's not to my taste but if others consider it to be acceptable, then good luck to them.
