Nobody without physical access can nick your cookies. Plus egay conveniently expire them promptly (they are session based, unless you tick the 'keep me logged in for today', in which case you get a 12hr expiry).

The cookie is worth jack to a hacker if it has expired.

The larger issue (and not related to egay) is your browser's 'remember password' option.  You are at the mercy of your browser's security.  Needless to say, I do not use this with *ANY* browser for any site that should be secure. That would be a bit dim.

And for info, no respectable website would store userid/password in a cookie.

The standard thing to store is some kind of GUID, which gets passed to the website, and any user lookup is then done on their back-end databases, including time limits and expirys.

I sell *A LOT* on ebay - I've had no email.

On the old usenet group uk.consumers.ebay there was a regular saying:

IASI*A*AS
("It's a scam. It's *ALWAYS* a scam")

I hope the email didn't contain an attachment... :(

For about 4 years I have used ebay to buy and sell and have never had a problem, my feedback is 100% over 324 transactions, I have even had a buyer return an item that I mistakenly provided, the same item but A4 rather than A5, I can only speak as I find... :)

Ditto, I have bought and sold for 10 years with never an unresolved issue. Sellers filter your buyers carefully, buyers only purchase from outstanding sellers.

Ive had more trouble in a shop- particularly Currys!!!   [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]

That wasn't a genuine unsolicited email from ebay...

...because its technically 'inaccurate'

That would never happen, no company (even one as crap as eBay) would sent out your password in plain text in unsecured format!

They shouldn't even know your password in an unhashed form if they are sensible. Sounds like you need to change ALL your passwords ASAP, freecall666, as I think you've been scammed. :o
