ooooooh , i can't resist playing devils advocate here , has anyone here heard of survival of the fitest ? i .e if your too stupid to look up and down a highway , specifically designed for huge chunks of metal to go up and down at speed , then basically , its your own fault . you wouldn't run across a runway or a conveyor or a railway without looking ,,, so why do it on a road ??

You need to hope that I am the first to respond..... :-X

survival of the fittest  We are talking of a child.. ::) the point being that at the speed limit this child was OK at the average speed she may have died....... ::) ::)

thousands of years and billions of pounds have been spent making the modern car , from the earliest times we have strived to travel further and faster , guess we must have peaked back in the fifties and sixties because ever since then the bleeding hearts have been trying to slow us down again . In Darwins on the origin of species it suggests that for a species to continue in nature (us included) it must adapt to new dangers and enviroments in order to survive those that do not are doomed to die out and another more suitable species will fill the void that is left  , if you are that stupid that you are going to step out into a space specifically designed for vehicles moving at speed (ANY SPEED) without first taking a quick look around to make sure you are safe then i'm sorry but you deserve to be removed from the gene pool , or at the very least rendered sterile so that you cant produce any more roadkill .

You have obviously deleted your previous post, which is visable as I quoted from it...... :-X

I personally can not be arsed at this time of night to get into a sociological argument but Darwin theory rather falls down when talking about a child running out on to the road.....

to be honest i didnt delete my original post i thought it had either  gone wrong or dissapeared, so i wrote another one , thats the reason for two posts , both cover the same basic point or maybe they don't i'm not t o sure but i guess what i was trying to get at is , if you stand in the road or run out in the road your gonna get killed or hurt weather you are a child or an adult the same principal applies , and i have two very sweet clever gorgeous daughters . i am sick of hearing about motorists never driving again because some stupid parent allowed an unsupervised or unsafe child into a road , if a member of my family had been killed by a motorist and the speed was triple the speed limit i wouldnt blame the driver , or the law , or the weather , i would blame the individual who was killed for being in the road , sure i would be upset , gutted probably , but it wouldnt change that one basic fact that had they been where they belonged i e on the pavement  then they would still be alive regardless of speed .

thought i'd also mention that i point blank refuse to brake when i see teenagers running across dual carriageways when the lights are quite obviously on green ( nowt like adding fuel to the fire lol)

I can't help feeling you will change your mind if it happened.

You're in a dangerous place my friend.

I think that's a very unwise thing to say Skin. [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

My reading of the amended legislation in the Road Traffic Act would suggest that you may open yourself to prosecution for either careless driving or dangerous driving in the event of your being noted doing this.

i agree i am in a dangerous place , most definately , if it happened to me i honestly dont think it would change my opinion , my wife was knocked down about ten years ago, i got a phone call off a friend whilst i was driving to tell me he had just seen my wife bouncing of someones bonnet , i admit i was mortified at the thought of her being killed or injured and i drove like a maniac to the site of the accident ( beat the police and the ambulance incidently ) in a quirk of fate it was actually right behind me on its way when i got the call , luckily she had a big arse at the time and wasn't too badly injured , however , both me and the wife were , and still are, in full agreement , it was all totally her fault , she couldn;t apologise enough , when the police arrived and started giving the driver a hard time my wife had the decency to tell the traffic officer that if she hadnt been in the road and not paying attention then none of this would have happened , cars are for roads not pedestrians . i admit my point of view is a highly unpoplular one , it definately isn't meant to cause offence i just can't stand it when people try to justify speed limits , they are quite simply wrong , in my humble opinion . :-/

unwise yes , defendable in crown court , most definately . maybe afew more idiot kids on life support after playing chicken on a dual carriageway will cause a few more ammandments like , make the parents of said idiot child pay for the damage to the veicles and the cost of the medical care and all the other expenses involved in investigating an RTA  ;D if only .............................................

Hmmm... Now here's a can of worms! Firstly, well done AA for avoiding what could have been a tragic (at worst) and highly distressing (at best) situation.

Speed limits are there for a reason. I'm in agreement with Lizzie on this, Motorways/Major Trunk roads should have the National limits raised/abolished but towns need limits. Actually, again in agreement with LZ, perhaps 20mph isn't that rediculous :-/

Skinwiz, your attitude is actually quite frightening and surprising. I would have no issues in testifying against you if I were to witness some of the behaviour you describe on the road. :o >:(

Is there anyone on the planet that does not know "The reason for speed limits in built up areas" or any other speed limit for that matter?

my attitude comes from being hammered every time i get in the car , speed humps , speed cameras , traffic enforcement , roadside speed checks , i just wanna be able to get from a-b without hinderance , is that so wrong ? if i wanted to take all day i'd buy a bleedin horse or motability scooter .people can testify all they like but it wouldnt change the fact that there was one less moronic idiot being a danger to motorists in my town  . incidently just before christmas a young girl was hit quite badly by a truck near where i live , it was in all the papers , everyone was up in arms , the family  were campaigning to have the speed limit dropped in that area ( it happens to be the very dual carriageway that i love sooooooooo much ) the local council are thinking of making the road a 30 zone , this road is a major junction of two roads , one of them being a main artery into manchester and is actually a continuation of a motorway a627(M) within approx 200 yards there are 4 pedestrian crossings and they have even widened two of them so that more people can wait safely at peak times , this girl still chose to walk out infront of a bulk tipper , the driver is distraught and to the best of my knowledge will probably never drive again , this is a proffesional truck driver mind , he depends on his liscence for his living ,no one seems to have a thought for him , he got up that fine morning kissed his wife goodbye(probably) went on his merry way then without asking or wanting someone decided to ruin his life , so c'mon guys , you tell me who the victim is ? tell me whats fair about that ? i can guarantee that if that road was a 90 zone that kid would have looked , twice probably .

if you are happy doing 20 mph , why have you purchased a 3 litre v6 power monster and not a 2.0 ? the whole idea of a 3.0 v6 with a sports button is , well , erm , isnt it to go FAST ?

.. if you think it's acceptable to do so in built up areas, 30MPH limits and around children I hope the right to drive your 3.0 V6 is denied you before you kill someone.
