Bear has just come back from paris...
« on: 07 March 2011, 20:40:10 »

had a really nice time. saw all the sites and had oysters and steak tartar for the first time.

annoying things include:

its so expensive

the bread, oh my god, the bread. its so hard and sharp im surprised i dont need stitches in my gums!!!!  >:(

their cars; i really think its great they support their own car companies by mainly buying french cars but for crying out loud all their cars are god awful... and these cars come from a nation supposedly teeming with style!!!

glad to be back  :y :y :y :y

I go there every two years or so (my brother lives there), and the prices are awful.
5 Euros for a coffe with milk  >:(
And also french cuisine, bloody hell I have no idea why it is so popular.
I was hungry every time after I ate in a restaurant  ;D
But a charming city that is for sure

mathewst, I advice you to try London.. cheapest price I pay was 10£ for a small glass of beer and a small piece of chicken (in a small Greek restaurant).. and when I tried a Turkish Kebap restaurant we paid 150£ for 4 persons >:( >:(

One night my brother and I ordered a beefsteak
When the waiter came and put the plate in front of me I looked at it  and asked what the hell is that on the plate
the waiter said "beefsteak"
Either french cows are a size of  a chicken  >:( or I'm just used to a normal portions here

I was there last year for a friends 40th (he's from Paris, hence the location) and I didn't find the prices too bad or the portions small; but then we didn't eat in touristy places I suppose, seeing as I had local knowledge with me. I think it cost €20 for a big portion of whatever it was with chips and a couple of glasses of wine for lunch.

What I didn't enjoy was the 300,000 protestors I ran into on the 5Km walk back to the hotel.. I'm not a people person at the best of times so a massive crowd like that sent me scurrying - I spent the rest of the time in my hotel room after that  :-[

You Bourgeoisie, or perhaps you are even worse- Aristocracy!!! :o :o :o :o :o  Your Hotel wasn't the Versailles Palace by any chance? :o :o :o :o

That type of thing, not mixing with the masses, once started a revolution! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)

;D ;D No it was the cheapest little place I could find that wasn't in a red light district.. hence the 5km walk back from the city center ;)

I just hate crowds at the best of times - going shopping for me is a nightmare.. so a few hundred thousand protesters all yelling in French and stuffing flyers in my face is my idea of hell.
