Omega Owners Forum Club
« on: 01 February 2007, 22:21:23 »

Sorry to ask this Guys, but I am sure you will forgive me as being a Newbie!!!! ;)
When I was 20 i was in love with 2.8 Capri's (I had two) and joined the Capri Club International, where you got a monthly magazine and could get parts to upgrade your car, also people sold there pride and joys in the mag... plus with being in the CC you got a discount on your insurance.
Does the Omega Owners Forum offer these things or is this something that maybe could happen in the future?
Do you have Omega days where everyone could have a get togther or is that perhaps something that could also happen in the future?
I have spent hours since becoming a member of this Forum lookin through all peoples post that have had problems then the replies that hopefully solve them.
My wife has a Classic Range Rover (that I have to spend alot of my time maintaining LMAO) and have met some great people with the same interest.

Hope you forgive me for talkin about other makes of cars on here but what actually made me think of this was someone had an "Omega Owners.com" sticker in there back window..

Thanks for Reading
Loo-knee ;)

Omega Owners Forum (OOF) has been running for just 6 months...

I'll leave to the admins to comment on magazines, however there are regular meets. Check out the meets section, one going on a Drax Power station, get a free tour!!! Was one recently at Santa Pod too

For discounts either contact a member who has a Trade Clubcard (TC) for parts at trade prices, also might be worth joining autobahnstomers, a club for 6 pot Vauxhalls. It costs £20 to join, and your membership card gets you trade prices at Vauxhall  :y

Check out the Meetings and Gatherings section here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1166625038 for get together's - popular at Santa Pod each year.

You can get the window stickers for £2.50 from here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1166625038

No discounts yet as the Forum hasn't been running long enough and doesn't have enough members - but watsh this space as time progresses - at 675 members its getting stronger all the time  :y

No problem mentioing other cars - General Chat is just that - one of the guys just bought a Senator and has mentioned it a couple of times  ;D HTH

Just seen the Omega 6 months flashing up at the top of the screen.... and to have 675 members within 6 months is a milestone. :y
I have just been reading about how quick the Omega's are, some guys trying to burn off from Jags and stuff ;D made me laugh thinking that the Boy Racer is still in you.....
The MV6 i have seen and am tempted to buy is an auto.....
But as i drive a Cavalier Diesel to work everyday i dont get chance to race things, only the odd pushbike ;D
But would the Demon Boy Racer again pop up once sitting behind the wheel of a MV6 Auto?????
Is the auto alot slower than the manual?? :-X

Yes.

Fastest Omegas are facelift MV6 3.2 manual, but these were not available to the general public so any such cars are rare and likely to be ex-plod.
(Vauxhall had a choice of manual or automatic transmission only on the MV6 2.6, but the MV6 3.2 came as standard with automatic transmission)

Personally I enjoy much more driving a manual car, but I have the auto box and it does have its merit when driving in slow moving traffic etc.

I suppose the reason most omegas are automatic is in part because they were originally sold to be used as middle-management company cars, and in part because to be honest the Omega manual gearbox is OK, but not brilliant or sporty...

Alas, no more Omegas....

Yes, the manual version is rather different! :)

I have an auto Elite (3.0) and a manual MV6 (3.0) and I can assure you I will always choose the one with the driver involvement pack if I want to actually "drive" the car.

I am just waiting to see how well it goes with an MTek chip fitted :D

Now as for "club" stuff...

No plans for a magazine. Not a lot of point really all the stuff you would put in there will be on the site.
The aim in the longer term is to develop this way beyond the forum it is now.

To get insurance discounts etc, you need to be in the VBOA and quite frankly I have no great interest in jumping through hoops to gain membership of that. Also then they would expect us to be a full blown club and that is certainly not something we want to do.

There are regular get togethers in different parts of the UK of varying types. As others have said, check out the meets section. :)

So the fastest retail version is the 3.0 manual :) Personally I wouldn't have an automatic... maybe it's got something to do with me being in my mid 20s which is less than the average age of an Omega owner but I just find autos super-dull, even driving a brand new Mustang in the US the driving experience was ruined by that damn slushbox.

The Omega manual box isn't overly sporty as the gearing is too high (it could really do with a 6 speed box IMO to make it easier to keep the revs high when driving hard) but it's still far better than the slushbox in that respect. Having an "S" button is little more than a gimmick really, it doesn't change the fact that the gearing is far too high (way higher than the manual) and that it can't read the road conditions nor prevent the rubber band effect of a torque converter that I absolutely loathe when driving on the limit through twisty roads.

It's horses for courses really, if you enjoy throwing the car around twisty B roads, and the Omega is pretty good for this considering its size especially the MV6, and want to get the best performance and maybe even a little cheeky power oversteer then there's simply no substitute for a manual box (or something like an SMG which obviously isn't available in the Omega!) but if you'd rather take the lazy option and will spend a lot of time in traffic maybe the slushy makes sense for you. Personally I'd have a manual even if I had to do rush hour traffic every day cos the reward on the open road more than makes up for it, but I realise not everyone is as obsessive about driving fun and involvement as I am  :y

Could be...  ;D ...but reality is you guys (the members) are the bosses of this site, and are what make the fantastic place it is. We (me, Marks DTM Calib, TheBoy and Auto Addict ) just keep things running as they should.

Anyway, pleased to hear you like it. :)

Know what your saying about driving a manual, but i want a car that is a family car as i have two daughters, something that will go if i shove my foot down at the lights and on the motorway or even to overtake someone, and i think i am in the lazy department too........

As for the last 3 years i have had my trusty old Diesel to get me to work, which being fair wouldn't overtake anything.. and so there isn't any excitment driving it ..plus money was rather tight then too.

Good to hear you're enjoying the forum Loo-Knee. :y As mentioned in some of the other replies, we do have the occassional meets in different area's of the country. We had quite a large weekend meet at Santa Pod last October which was a great success and great fun - BBQ's, lots of beer followed by some sore heads on Sunday morning!! ::) Also a good opportunity to get heads under bonnets and problems resolved. It's a good venue as it's fairly central in the country for many of the members on here and the camping facilities are reasonable, and of course there's the drag strip!! I'm sure there will be another one this year when the weather's a bit warmer - keep an eye on the Meets section.  :)

BTW, how did you come up with a name like Loo-Knee? You're not a Chinese lunatic are you?? ;D ;D
