Vauxhall Fault Diagnosis
« on: 31 May 2011, 17:14:50 »

I was just wondering if any member's have any idea how much Vauxhall charge for fault diagnosis.

I currentely have a problem with my 2.2 auto (see general help) and am considering purchasing a cheap code reader from Flea Bay.

Not being a billionaire I obviousley don't want them to fix the problem.....just hook it up to their computer and tell me what it is saying.

I took my old Omega to the Wimbledon branch about 7 years ago to do just that and remember being quite immpressed about how cheap the fault finding was.

I can't remember the price, but I do remember that they quoted me £460.00 for the repair.
That was for a brand new part and labour.
I took my car to a local mechanic instead who got me a second hand part and charged me £45.00 all in......I kid you not  ::)

I think it was my throttle body that needed replacing if I remember correctely.

What do you guys think though........are they still quite cheap to just get their computer on it??

I think my local dealer charges around £90  :-? so it'd be cheaper to buy something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Autel-MS509-Diagnostic-OBD2-Fault-Code-Reader-Scanner-/220761792594?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item33666da052#ht_5170wt_1139
Although they only do engine codes, they've paid for themselves the first-ish time you use them.

I think it's the IACV, he does not mention cleaning it out after doing all that work and would be worth trying before he ponies up any cash to a dealer, ebay or anyone else  :y

I use my local auto electrician, they will read the code and fix the fault, if I want, usually been cam or crank sensor over the years....... :y

Depending on where you are there are members who have code readers and might be able to help you out.. :y :y

Having just been blessed with a Vxl diagnostic charge at the Bromley WJ Kings, i can confirm that it is £90 plus VAT.

There is a chap just off Jubilee Way, Morden who specialises in Vauxhalls and Saabs.  He trades as MJ Autos and seems to be quite active with members of VVOC - the Vectra owners club.  However i should state that i have never myself used him not least because i have only just recently found him. His contact details are riverside business park Unit number 26 which he shares with someone else so always ask for Martin.  His contact number is 07734723189.
