My Kit car build
« on: 15 June 2011, 13:23:16 »

howdoo! thought id share some pics and what not for those who like kit cars ;)

its "going to be a Haynes roadster" with a big twist
it'll have :
engine: x30xe (ported heads, custom manifolds to come out of the side of the bonnet :P
omega box r28
and all the usual sierra running gear
lightened flywheel c20xe using the xe cover and a c20let friction plate, weighing 6kg complete!
oh and a custom made prop.

should be rather quick!
and in the long run "id like to" run mega-squirt with throttle bodies
but i have to Iva it first ;)
http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=6198

plenty of other photos elsewhere and watch this space for when i get the engine mounted and running!

Interesting project. Much respect for welding up the chassis rather than cheating like I did and buying one from Westfield. Looks like you've done a nice job too. :y

I take it the engine'll be a little lower in the final fitting. Forward visibility might be an issue as it stands? ;)

as for view i think a rather large bulge is in place! but yeah the chassis its self is nearly all welded just plates and suspension brackets to put on along with steering support and rear frame work.

in fairness i was surprised that i got good feedback i was  umming and arring whether to post, but it seems as tho you are quite interested ill try and keep you all updated especially when it come to trialing the engine out in the car and my first drive etc!  8-)

You could always ditch the plenum in favour of some downdraught throttle bodies to make it a little less tall.

You know it makes sense. ;)

just my opinion,

this engine too heavy and strong for that chasis..

dont know what type of welding you did, but they will be the first point to risk your life , if one of them decides to give up :-/

I THINK IVE WET MY PANTS!  ::)

First time I saw that car was about 15 minutes before this photo was taken.

It was trundling up the hill towards Stormont where we had special permission to meet up prior to touring Northern Ireland.

I remember thinking that I'd be inclined to give it a few more beans up the hill, special permission and best behaviour or not. Then I did just that. [smiley=evil.gif]

Turned out he was chugging up the hill at idle. First job was to change the throttle cable. It went a little better after that. ;D

that's fair for you to think that , but don't worry i assure you and most importantly myself! that im sure my coded welding speaks for itself and that others have put big v8s and other v6 setups and there fine. you'll be surprised in just how strong theses chassis's actually are :P

a general rule of thumb obviously if the welder is good is that 1 inch of weld can usually take around a ton, so if you imaging all 50/60 welds on my car not including the extra long seam welds on some bits that it can take a goo beating :P

heres a couple more pics to keep you all happy  :D

refurbing them and spraying them anthracite :P mmmmmm

my wishbones one painted and one primed :)

oh Kevin in regards to what you said earlier about height
if you see pic above (tr8+tr9) the scuttle sits on that and that is roughly the same height as the top of the omega plenum so it should work out just nicely :)
