just my opinion,

this engine too heavy and strong for that chasis..

dont know what type of welding you did, but they will be the first point to risk your life , if one of them decides to give up :-/

that's fair for you to think that , but don't worry i assure you and most importantly myself! that im sure my coded welding speaks for itself and that others have put big v8s and other v6 setups and there fine. you'll be surprised in just how strong theses chassis's actually are :P

a general rule of thumb obviously if the welder is good is that 1 inch of weld can usually take around a ton, so if you imaging all 50/60 welds on my car not including the extra long seam welds on some bits that it can take a goo beating :P

Yep.. That chassis is strong enough for 200 BHP. No doubt there.

It looks quite similar to my Westfield SEIW actually. The only real weak point on them appears to be the cage supporting the diff and that's rarely a problem with anything less than a powerful V8 (i.e. not a rover!).

What gearbox are you going with? The reason I ask is that the Omega box has a rather short first gear for that application, in my opinion.

Not sure what other options are viable, having said that. I guess a type 9 with GM bellhousing would offer a good choice of ratios. Not sure how it would handle the power. Perhaps a BGH or similar uprated one would be OK?

ahh yeah i have a revised design for my diff cage and im using 5mm and 7mm plate to mount the diff.

im using the r28 box, yeah first gear is rather sharp but will make good impressions when pulling away haha lots of smoke  :P

i like how smooth the box is tho as i have driven my dads omega and thaught it was ace! type 9's are good and so on but they just dont feel nicely refined, but what do you expect from an old design  :)

Im trying to get what comfort i can  ;)  ;D

Do you still own your westy?

Yep. Agreed. The only reason the Type 9 lingers on is the availability of relatively cheap gearkits and detachable bellhousing, IMHO.

I have an MT75 in mine, which is a much better, stronger box, but, again, first gear is a little short and there's damn all you can do about it for sensible money.

Yep, although it's off the road at the moment. A stupid bint took a corner off it on a roundabout in January and I'm still trying to get it repaired. >:( Oh, there goes that vein in my forehead again. Better think about something else. ;)

Oh dear has it done structural damage? i take it that the woman person! hit the front offside wheel :(

on the lines of gearboxes i have to do a bit of machining of a spacer to accomodate the space lost from getting rid of the dual-mass , all this extra engineering for a 4 kilo fly :P

but damn will it rev nicely!! and sound amazing!
 :P

dont they use the zetec in the model of westy you have?

i like the look of the seight :P now thats cool!

What will it look like body wise. Are you staying with the Westie/Caterham style?

kind of yeah  ;) although im sourcing my body pannels from differnt people ect :P and also doing some mods myself to it but it will resemble the caterham lotus 7 etc :).

hope to get some more aerodynamic features on mine like a rear splitter and front fins to guide the air over the wishbones, these designs have been out a while but i think they look nice and mean  >:(  :P  8-)

howdoo all! some big progress lately got most of my brackets done and some other nit bits :)
but  I now have an engine!! its a x25xe from a vectra but i got it off ebay with gearbox loom starter motor dual mass flywheel and clutch for 60 pounds!!! whatta bargain!!

anyhoo to the pics!!!

That was difficult to get in! and even more getting out!

i have some big development plans for the engine " so he says"
im going to be fully stripping the engine , porting the heads and doing some polyquad experiments to the inlet valves. as said earlier in the post i think i may be going with the megasquirt option :)  as all the mods i plan to do , the ecu may not like even it being a maf!

and also that way i can cream even more power from it :P

Bet you were super cautious on the brakes driving home! :o

One small mishap and that would have been curtains! :o

GL with your build.

wouldnt have bothered with the 2.5 tbh. you will spend a lot of money to get the power output up to the same as a standard 3.0/3.2. Imo the 3.2 would be the one to go for - much better exhaust manifolds, programmeable ECU....... ;)

* I may have missed something, as the chassis apparently had a 3.0 in it at the top of the thread, but the last post mentions a 2.5 ? :-/
