I was listening to someone on the radio moaning about the cost of her season ticket from Hove to London costing £4000 a year or something silly.  All I could think of was "why live in Hove and work in London?"

I used to be a freelance contractor, so on occasion it worked out that I had a substantial commute.  But it was only for the duration of a contract - on average, that was about 6 months.  The thought of having to do it daily for years absolutely horrifies me.  I wasn't too happy about contracts that were too far to commute, either - that meant staying away from home during the week and a long drive at either end.  But all this has to be considered as "lifestyle choices", so I don't have a huge amount of sympathy for the whingers.

On the other hand, the size of the energy price rises is just breathtaking - worldwide, oil prices (and hence electricity prices) have been going down for months, yet our energy companies are imposing 15% increases.  I just don't understand. :( :( :(

just fitted a huge multi fuel burner in my lounge should keep most of the house warm as ive access to free wood, should help as my heating is gas, which has gone up again . ::)

I did that last year but my free wood has dried up :'( :'( :'(

Never mind, it's fitted now so I'll just have to go around my contacts for some good deals on firewood :y :y

You wanna have a drive around and see if you can see council 'tree cutting in progress' signs up...How it tends to work here....if you see them cutting down a tree or seriously doing some prunning....then it aint groing through the shredder....so they cut it up in about 6ft lengths, stack it up, awaiting to be taken away by lorry with a grab arm....here they have no problem with you helping yourself before the lorry gets there (which can a day or so later).....as apparently it only gets buried.  :y :y

I was toying with the idea of having a wood burner in my living room......but not sure of the work involved, as the chimney breast has been taken out in that room.....but is still there upstairs  :-/

It's because we're subsidising windmills that don't work and for solar panels to be installed beneath our largely cloudy skies. >:(

Shame people see Japan as a failure, rather than the success story it was, despite the incompitence of those running it. Then we could subsidise nuclear.

Depends on what you get paid and just how tolerable the journey is. For those paying £4000 a year to stand most of the way then it is just crazy but if there is no work where you live you have to do what you have to do.

I am lucky with my train journey plus I am away a fair bit so breaks it up and do not have to be in or leave at set times. Those who are not so fortunate seek to retire early from this treadmill.

The cumulative impact of price hikes mean that you have to keep doing it to keep your head above water and meet all your responsibilities.
