Both my parents had their first heart attacks when they were about 10 years younger than I am now, so I must be due one soon. ::) ;D

Thought I was reasonably fit and healthy with a decent diet but found out I had fairly high cholesterol last year. Been on statins ever since and they're bloody marvellous - cholestoral count down to around 3.5 now! You don't have to be overweight or on a bad diet to get high cholestoral, it can happen to anyone so don't let it stess you out. ;)

Thing is, was this an overall figure?
If you have high LDL it's not so bad as high HDL, there is a difference. I was checked on the rig by the medic with a finger prick test, he said 'ooooooh that's a bit high' It was 7.1.
Went to the quacks after a 24 hour fast for a proper test.
They give you the results with LDL and HDL separate so you get a real idea if your doing yourself harm or not.
My lifestyle then and now included the odd 4 mile run, about once a week, a lot of mountain biking (then) not so much now (too bloody hot in the summer) plenty of long beach/promenade walks (now) swimming and a relatively stress free job. So after the initial scare was told by the nurse that I'm doing just fine.
I have since cut down on beer but upped the red wine intake, well, in Spain, it's a must.
Go back for a proper test with a 24 hour fast before and see what the results are, I think and hope you will be pleasantly surprised, above all don't panic and remember if you take statins you will NOT be able to sunbathe on holiday, really sensitive skin from the pills.

Booze and fags are a big contribution to raised cholesterol - probably why mine was on the high side! ::)

Not bad considering my alcohol intake is quite considerable  ::)

No binge drinking but quite often see off a bottle of Wine most nights with the Mrs, often going out for meals too, more booze, Southern Comfort & Lemonade is also refreshing and often consumed.

Staying off booze for this week, apart from tonight going to a Champagne Bar  ;D

Careful Richie, soon we'll be asking who ate all the pies if you keep that up!

Believe me, I speak from experience.. (I ate all the pies.)

That said its either a 20 minute walk to Staff Shuttle, or 20 minute cycle of 4.8 miles each way to work, so that counter-acts most of it  :)
