Hello all.
Just returned from two gloriously sunny (80-90 degrees) and hot weeks in the Vendee. Took the Elite estate. Covered around 1100 miles-850 of these towing a large fully laden caravan with three bikes on the car roof. Overall consumption was 20.4mpg according to the trip computer. Car performed faultlessly-just glad I had the climate regassed a few months ago.
Did have a few wiffs of oil after getting out of the car after long towing stretches-but had this with the previous 2.5 estate-I'll check the rocker gaskets.
I've said it before-but I wish Vauxhall still made the Omega-theres no estate around at the moment that comes anywhere close.

20.4 mpg ...... Not dissimilar from what I got when going to & from France earlier this 'summer' while towing our caravan - & if you could have seen what SWMBO packed  :-?  :-? half of which came back having never been worn. I remember that the trip computer recorded 78 galls!  :-?

I had the same problem-brought most things back unused.
My 2.5 auto would only do 20mpg with a much lighter caravan.
And don't forget that the computer is not spot on-although I like to believe it is

On the odd occasion I've checked it against brim to brim I didn't it was that far out.

Thats a good result Steve. I love france, wanted to take my MX5 over there but there's not much room for luggage, mind you I do have a rather large old bag on the passenger seat

Wife had an MX5 once.
Would never put the top down because it was always too cold she said.

Hi steve, a little off topic i know but i'm thinking of doing a run myself with the Omega and caravan to France but been trying get info together as to best price's on the ferry and the best site's to stay at. If you dont mind me asking what price did you pay for both ferry and site

Hello,
I used the a company called Select Sites (www.select-site.com)

They were recommended by a lot of people in work.
The total cost including ferries and camp site was around £1000.
Over £600 of this was for the crossing from Caen to Portsmouth. Dover-calais is much cheaper.
I looked at the Brittany Ferry website and the camp website and by booking independently I would have saved £10. It wasn't worth the hassle.
Select Sites were superb.

Have a look at the website and request a brochure.

I found towing in France to be much easier than in Britain. I did 270 miles in 6 hours yesterday without any jams-and this was around major cities such as Nantes and Rennes.
