i'm not currently an omega owner, lost my beloved CDX last year to a focus driver (of all things to hit me) and not been in a position to replace it.
i do now have a pug 306 sedan 1.9 TD and i'm havin probs starting it. turns over for a while till it drains the battery but refuses to start. will always bump start though.
any ideas as to the problem?
one suggestion by big-fra is a pin hole in fuel hose drawing in air instead of diesel. i dont know enough to say.

Check the glow plugs are working.

A very easy test as follows....

Switch the interior light on BEFORE you switch on the ignition. When you turn the key to position II, you should see the brightness of the inerior light dim down for a few seconds and then come back up again when the glow plugs have reached temperature.

If you don't see any change, then the glow plugs need to be changed.
They are all nice and easy with the exception of plug number one, that's a bit of a pain to get to as it's right behind the injection pump.

Another test to do on the glow plugs is
take the cabel off the top using a cicuit tester (screwdriver with long cabel croc. clip) attach one end to + on your battery and with the other end touch
the top of glow plug, if it lights up its ok, if not its knackerd,
it sometimes just takes one plug to stop it from starting.

Another test to do on the glow plugs is

I'm afraid that doesn't prove the plug is working, because the lamp would also illuminate if the glow plug was short circuit internally.

Those euro-diesel lumps will still start if a couple of plugs are down, but they don't like it.
