I ended up getting the whole engine mount in the end. It was a pain extracting the stud from the bracket as well.

How can you tell if its failed?? Both look pretty solid to me, rubber looks good...how do I test it?

Easiest way is a hefty chunk of wood and a trolley jack, just gently take the weight on the jack with the wood inbetween near each mount then check for erronious gaps

between the metal plates and rubber sections that are supposed to be bonded together

Finally got to the bottom of it...surprisingly the engine mounts are ok...all checked out as it should...apart from one minor little thing that a quick check by the mechanic doing the cambelt/tensioners/water pump today picked up...

All 4 of the bolts holding on the subframe had worked their way loose and needed 3-4 turns to tighten them!  :-?

Indeed, engin mounts are the favourite.

Shitroen is definately not the way to go
